Sjögren Disease—B Cells at the Brink: From Autoimmunity to Lymphomagenesis and the Rise of Novel B Cell–Targeted Therapies

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, EarlyView.
Sjögren disease (SjD) is a common systemic autoimmune disorder characterized by inflammation of the exocrine glands, resulting in dryness. Patients frequently exhibit extraglandular manifestations affecting various organ systems. To date, there are no US Food and Drug Administration (FDA)‐approved disease‐modifying therapies for SjD. In this review, we

Interleukin‐5, Eosinophils, and Interleukin‐5 Pathway Inhibitors in Eosinophilic Granulomatosis With Polyangiitis

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, EarlyView.
Interlukin‐5 (IL‐5) plays a crucial role in the pathogenesis of eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA) by promoting eosinophil differentiation, activation, and survival. We present here a typical case of EGPA in which treatment with IL‐5 pathway inhibitors is prescribed, showing to be beneficial for the patient.

Multigene Germline Panel Testing in Gastric Cancer Patients in a Portuguese Population

open access: yesCancer Medicine
Background Gastric cancer is a heterogeneous disease with both environmental and genetic determinants. While Multigene Germline Panel Testing (MGPT) increasingly reveals hereditary predisposition, the prevalence and clinical significance of germline ...

Association of Clonal Hematopoiesis with Incident, Late‐Onset, Seropositive Rheumatoid Arthritis

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, Accepted Article.
Objectives Clonal hematopoiesis (CH), defined by acquired driver mutations in hematopoietic stem cells, is associated with many inflammatory diseases of aging. We investigated whether CH and its subtypes, clonal hematopoiesis of indeterminate potential (CHIP) and mosaic chromosomal alteration (mCA), are associated with incident rheumatoid arthritis (RA)

“Hands‐On” white matter anatomy: Using Air Anatomy gestures and tractography on simple brain sections to enhance teaching of white matter directions

open access: yesAnatomical Sciences Education, EarlyView.
Abstract Teaching white matter (WM) anatomy to undergraduates is challenging. This is partly because WM fibers are oriented intricately and Klingler's dissection, the gold standard method used to demonstrate it, often requires time, advanced anatomical knowledge, and refined dissection skills.

RET proto-oncogene and thyroid cancer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
TheRET proto-oncogene has not only conclusively been identified as responsible for the three subtypes of the inherited cancer syndrome multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2 (MEN-2) but also shown to be involved in the molecular evolution of sporadic ...

Association of invasive breast carcinoma and multicentric high grade astrocytoma: a case report with a review. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women. Multicentric gliomas are uncommon lesions of the central nervous system (CNS) with an unprecise rate of occurrence that diffusely infiltrate large portions of the brain. High grade astrocytoma is the most

Monocyte maturation pattern by flow cytometry expression of CD64, CD300e, and CD14 correlates to presence of myeloid neoplasm and helps identify blast equivalents in the setting of monocytic neoplasm

open access: yesCytometry Part B: Clinical Cytometry, EarlyView.
Abstract CD300e is a marker of mature monocytes in flow cytometry; however, there is limited detailed information on staining patterns in conjunction with other monocyte markers. We evaluated the flow cytometric staining patterns of CD64, CD14, and CD300e in 12 negative and 33 positive peripheral blood specimens and 16 negative and 56 positive bone ...

Flow cytometry‐based monitoring of chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cells: Reagent selection, assay design, and clinical utility

open access: yesCytometry Part B: Clinical Cytometry, EarlyView.
Abstract Accurate quantification of chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cells is essential for monitoring post‐infusion CART expansion and persistence and for real‐time clinical decision‐making. Multiparameter flow cytometry (MFC) enables rapid, live‐cell detection with absolute quantification and concurrent immunophenotypic characterization. This review

Mitotic abnormalities precede microsatellite instability in lynch syndrome-associated colorectal tumourigenesisResearch in context

open access: yesEBioMedicine
Summary: Background: Lynch syndrome (LS) is one of the most common hereditary cancer syndromes worldwide. Dominantly inherited mutation in one of four DNA mismatch repair genes combined with somatic events leads to mismatch repair deficiency and ...
