Floodplains are ecosystems, which oscillate between terrestrial and aquatic phases. Therefore, their biodiversity corresponds to the sum of species living in the aquatic-terrestrial transition zone and permanent aquatic and terrestrial habitats within the floodplain, e.g., permanent water bodies and tree canopies.
