This paper contains a study of the vestibular nerve and its branches in man at various ages. It has been done with the purpose of estimating the “normal” number of nerve fibers and to investigate whether any reduction occurs with increasing age.

An analysis of the calibers of the preganglionic portion of the myelinated vestibular nerve fibers in man at various ages has been made. In all 10 210 fibers were analysed. The material consisted of nerve specimens from one newborn, 4 adults with “normal”

Myelinated retinal nerve fibers: prevalence, location and effect on visual acuity.
Ophthalmologica. Journal international d'ophtalmologie. International journal of ophthalmology. Zeitschrift fur Augenheilkunde, 1990We examined fundus photographs of 5,789 patients (11,578 eyes) and found 39 patches of myelinated nerve fibers in 35 eyes of 33 patients. The prevalence was 0.57%. The lesion was more frequent in females than in males.

Myelinated nerve fibers, axial myopia, and refractory amblyopia: an organic disease.
Journal of pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus, 1987Six patients with the syndrome of myelinated nerve fibers, high axial myopia, and refractory amblyopia were studied with particular emphasis on their sensory status.

Unilateral peripapillary myelinated nerve fibers with myopia and/or amblyopia.
A M A Archives of Ophthalmology, 1987This report describes 12 patients with unilateral peripapillary myelinated nerve fibers associated with myopia and/or amblyopia. Seven patients had myopia with a mean of -13.00 diopters of anisometropia and abnormal maculae varying from a decreased ...

Density of myelinated nerve fibers in the chinchilla cochlea.
Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1982Baseline values for the density of myelinated nerve fibers at 11 locations in the chinchilla cochlea were obtained as a prerequisite for studying the relationship between sensory cell degeneration and spiral ganglion cell loss.

Detection of organelles in myelinated nerve fibers by dark-field microscopy.
Canadian Journal of Physiology and Pharmacology, 1972Dark-field microscopy improves the optical detection of intraaxonal organelles. In living myelinated nerve fibers of the adult rat and the adult toad, fast (approximately 1 μm/s) somatopetal and somatofugal movement of near-spherical particles was seen ...

Preservation and staining of myelinated nerve fibers.
Methods, 1998Six procedures are given for preservation of myelinated nerve fibers for light or electron microscopic studies. These procedures fall into two main categories: those with and those without aldehyde fixation.

Acquired and progressive myelinated nerve fibers.
A M A Archives of Ophthalmology, 1985Follow-up data are presented on a previously described child in whom myelinated nerve fibers presumably developed 5 1/2 months after an optic nerve decompression.

Sciatic nerves of rats were severed with steel scalpel blades and subsequently anastomosed with epineurial sutures and laser-aided techniques. Morphometric analysis of myelinated nerve fibers proximal and distal to the anastomosed region revealed that ...
