Nerve Fiber Analysis of the Facial Nerve
Annals of Otology, Rhinology & Laryngology, 1989Nerve fiber analyses were conducted on the human facial nerve with use of a new staining method (Luxol-PAS-hematoxylin stain; discriminative staining method) that permits simultaneous observation of the axon and surrounding myelin sheath. The following combination of equipment was employed in the study: An image-analyzing digitizer, a microscope with ...

Sural Nerve Without Nerve Fibers in Leprous Neuropathy
Archives of Neurology, 2002A37-YEAR-OLD woman, a nativeofCapeVerde Islands who lived in Italy for 13 years, had an indolent perforating ulcer on her left big toe as her only complaint (Figure, A). Her deceased father had reportedly been affected by leprosy. On examination, muscle power and tendon reflexes were normal, but there was severe loss of pain and temperature sensation ...

Abstract The nerve fiber is simply a continuation of the neuron’s axon or functional process. Thus, it is not a distinct component of nervous tissue, and would have been considered along with the neuron if a separate description were not justified by special features displayed on the way to its terminal arborizations.

Afferent nerve fibers and acupuncture
Autonomic Neuroscience, 2010Acupuncture has been used for analgesia, for treating visceral function disorders and for improving motor functions. It is well established that stimulation of the skin and muscles, either electrically or with noxious or non-noxious stimuli, induces a variety of somato-motor and autonomic responses.

Nerve fibers in ovarian endometriomas
Fertility and Sterility, 2010Ovarian endometriomas (n = 29) were innervated by mainly sympathetic and sensory fibers. These fibers may be involved in the generation of pain symptoms.

Nerve Fibers in Osteoid Osteoma
The Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery, 1970Osteoid osteomas stained with the Bielschowsky axon stain, demonstrated nerve fibers within the matrix of the nidus in sixteen of eighteen lesions studied. These fibers were associated with blood vessels and were found in greatest abundance adjacent to arterioles. Routine hematoxylin and eosin stains failed to reveal these fibers.

Myelination proceeds in an orderly fashion. The last elements to receive a myelin sheath are the chiasm and optic nerve. Myelinated nerve fibers in the retina most often occur in men and are seen in 0.3–1.0% of individuals. The eyes are otherwise normal.

Aberrant Intramedullary Peripheral Nerve Fibers
Archives of Neurology, 1968OCCURRENCE of bundles of perivascular nerve fibers within the spinal cord has long been known and the resemblance of the tinctorial characteristics of the associated myelin sheaths to myelin of peripheral nerves has received comment. 1-3 In cases of myelopathy of diverse causes, intramedullary nerve fibers may proliferate to form localized traumatic ...

Osmotic relations of nerve fiber
The Journal of Membrane Biology, 1977The volumetric elastic modulus of the sheath and the osmotic swelling pressure of the axoplasmic polymer network of the giant axon of Loligo vulgaris were measured. Evidence was obtained that (1) the elastic modulus of the sheath, (2) the swelling pressure of axoplasm, and (3) the effective osmotic pressure difference due to mobile solutes determine ...
