Rewriting nested XML queries using nested views [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the 2006 ACM SIGMOD international conference on Management of data, 2006
We present and analyze an algorithm for equivalent rewriting of XQuery queries using XQuery views, which is complete for a large class of XQueries featuring nested FLWR blocks, XML construction and join equalities by value and identity. These features pose significant challenges which lead to fundamental extension of prior work on the problems of ...

Keeping a watch on neighbors: social vigilance in Painted Stork ( Mycteria leucocephala ) nesting colonies

open access: yesJournal of Field Ornithology
Social vigilance, the act of monitoring conspecifics, is a critical behavior in group-living species, balancing the demands of threat detection, resource acquisition, and social interactions.

ATF4‐mediated stress response as a therapeutic vulnerability in chordoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We screened 5 chordoma cell lines against 100+ inhibitors of epigenetic and metabolic pathways and kinases and identified halofuginone, a tRNA synthetase inhibitor. Mechanistically halofuginone induces an integrated stress response, with eIF2alpha phosphorylation, activation of ATF4 and its target genes CHOP, ASNS, INHBE leading to cell death ...

A subset of MMR‐proficient colon cancers responds to neoadjuvant immunotherapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tan et al. reveal that a distinct subset of early‐stage pMMR colon cancers can respond to neoadjuvant immunotherapy. In the NICHE‐2 trial, responders (26%) were characterized by chromosomal instability, TP53 mutations, and proliferative cell‐cycle programs, whereas nonresponders showed metabolic and stromal reprogramming with TGF‐β‐driven ...

The fauna and summer bird population of the Karagai Biosphere Reserve (Chelyabinsk Oblast)

open access: yesТрансформация экосистем
Based on the results of ornithological studies, conducted in the Karagai Biosphere Reserve in 2008–2022, a list of bird species has been compiled. It consists of 134 (including 118 breeding or, probably, breeding) species.

Ducks and passerines nesting in northern mixed‐grass prairie treated with fire

open access: yesWildlife Society Bulletin, 2011
Prescribed fire is an important, ecology‐driven tool for restoration of grassland systems. However, prescribed fire remains controversial for some grassland managers because of reported reductions in bird use of recently burned grasslands.

Description of life stages of dung beetle Scaptodera rhadamistus (Fabricius, 1775) (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae: Scarabaeinae) with notes on nesting and biology

open access: yesJournal of Threatened Taxa, 2018
Immature stages of Scaptodera rhadamistus (Fabricius) are described for the first time along with notes on nidification and biology.  The larvae differ from other Scarabaeinae species in the structure of raster on tenth sternum with two irregular bunches

Population and Nesting Site Evidence for Diamondback Terrapins, Malaclemys terrapin, in Northeast Florida

open access: yesFrontiers in Ecology and Evolution, 2022
Diamondback terrapins (Malaclemys terrapin) are listed as Vulnerable by the IUCN Red List Index of Threatened Species. Among the challenges terrapins encounter are habitat loss due to coastal development and sea level rise, mortality at all life stages ...

PARP inhibition and pharmacological ascorbate demonstrate synergy in castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pharmacologic ascorbate (vitamin C) increases ROS, disrupts cellular metabolism, and induces DNA damage in CRPC cells. These effects sensitize tumors to PARP inhibition, producing synergistic growth suppression with olaparib in vitro and significantly delayed tumor progression in vivo. Pyruvate rescue confirms ROS‐dependent activity.
