Phylogeny of a neural cell adhesion molecule

Developmental Biology, 1985
The phylogeny of adhesion among cells derived from neural tissue has been examined using a combination of functional and immunological analyses. The presence of the neural cell adhesion molecule (NCAM) was evaluated with respect to NCAM-specific antigenic determinants attached to a polypeptide chain with appropriate electrophoretic properties. By these

Heterogeneity of Soluble Neural Cell Adhesion Molecule

Journal of Neurochemistry, 1989
Abstract: Soluble neural cell adhesion molecule (NCAM) from rat brain neuronal cell culture media consists predominantly of a polypeptide of Mr∼ 115,000. Minor amounts of a polypeptide of Mr∼ 180,000 and two inconsistently appearing components of Mr 160,000 and 145,000 are also observed.

Cell Adhesion Molecules in Neural Histogenesis

Annual Review of Physiology, 1986
Aside from evolutionary change itself, there are three main sources of variabil ity in neural networks: the somatic developmental sequence, which is responsi ble for network formation and neuroanatomy; the chemical and structural variation at synapses (particularly that related to neurotransmitters and chan nels); and the electrical variation that ...
