Plxdc2 Is a Mitogen for Neural Progenitors

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2011
The development of different brain regions involves the coordinated control of proliferation and cell fate specification along and across the neuraxis. Here, we identify Plxdc2 as a novel regulator of these processes, using in ovo electroporation and in vitro cultures of mammalian cells.

Neural Progenitor Cells Derived from Human Embryonic Stem Cells as an Origin of Dopaminergic Neurons

open access: yesStem Cells International, 2015
Human embryonic stem cells (hESCs) are able to proliferate in vitro indefinitely without losing their ability to differentiate into multiple cell types upon exposure to appropriate signals.

Neural progenitors, neurogenesis and the evolution of the neocortex [PDF]

open access: yesDevelopment, 2014
The neocortex is the seat of higher cognitive functions and, in evolutionary terms, is the youngest part of the mammalian brain. Since its origin, the neocortex has expanded in several mammalian lineages, and this is particularly notable in humans. This expansion reflects an increase in the number of neocortical neurons, which is determined during ...

Relationships between genome-wide R-loop distribution and classes of recurrent DNA breaks in neural stem/progenitor cells

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
Recent studies revealed classes of recurrent DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs) in neural stem/progenitor cells, including transcription-associated, promoter-proximal breaks and recurrent DSB clusters in late-replicating, long neural genes that may give ...

Control of neural stem cell self-renewal and differentiation in Drosophila [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The neural stem cells of Drosophila, called neuroblasts, have the ability to self-renew and at the same time produce many different types of neurons and glial cells.

Mathematical modeling supports substantial mouse neural progenitor cell death

open access: yesNeural Development, 2009
Background Existing quantitative models of mouse cerebral cortical development are not fully constrained by experimental data. Results Here, we use simple difference equations to model neural progenitor cell fate decisions, incorporating intermediate ...

The neural milieu of the developing choroid plexus: neural stem cells, neurons and innervation. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The choroid plexus produces cerebrospinal fluid and plays an important role in brain homeostasis both pre and postnatally. In vitro studies have suggested that cells from adult choroid plexus have stem/progenitor cell-like properties. Our initial aim was

The species specific effects of Mesenchymal stem cell conditioned medium on proliferating mouse and rat adult neural stem, progenitor cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Adult stem cells reside in different tissues and organs of the adult organism. Among these cells are Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and neural stem and progenitor cells (NSPCs).

Induction of Neurogenesis and Angiogenesis in a Rat Hemisection Spinal Cord Injury Model With Combined Neural Stem Cell, Endothelial Progenitor Cell, and Biomimetic Hydrogel Matrix Therapy

open access: yesCritical Care Explorations, 2021
OBJECTIVES:. Acute spinal cord injury is a devastating injury that may lead to loss of independent function. Stem-cell therapies have shown promise; however, a clinically efficacious stem-cell therapy has yet to be developed.

Adult limbal neurosphere cells: a potential autologous cell resource for retinal cell generation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The Corneal limbus is a readily accessible region at the front of the eye, separating the cornea and sclera. Neural colonies (neurospheres) can be generated from adult corneal limbus in vitro.
