Neurofilaments in health and Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease

open access: yesFrontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology, 2023
Neurofilaments (NFs) are the most abundant component of mature neurons, that interconnect with actin and microtubules to form the cytoskeleton. Specifically expressed in the nervous system, NFs present the particularity within the Intermediate Filament ...

Voxel-wise comparisons of cellular microstructure and diffusion-MRI in mouse hippocampus using 3D Bridging of Optically-clear histology with Neuroimaging Data (3D-BOND) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
A key challenge in medical imaging is determining a precise correspondence between image properties and tissue microstructure. This comparison is hindered by disparate scales and resolutions between medical imaging and histology.

Fluid and Neuroimaging Biomarkers in Microgliopathy Colony‐Stimulating Factor‐1 Receptor‐Related Disorders

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective This study aims to identify both fluid and neuroimaging biomarkers for CSF1R‐RD that can inform the optimal timing of treatment administration to maximize therapeutic benefit, while also providing sensitive quantitative measurements to monitor disease progression.

Neurofilaments as Biomarkers of the Efficacy of Risdiplam Treatment in Early SMA Phenotypes Diagnosed by Newborn Screening

open access: yesChildren
Risdiplam is an orally administered small molecule that modifies the mRNA splicing of SMN2 for the treatment of spinal muscular atrophy (SMA). Its use is approved in presymptomatic patients diagnosed by neonatal screening with early and severe forms with

Serum neurofilament heavy chains as a biomarker of neuronal damage in multiple sclerosis relapse

open access: yesNeurologijos seminarai, 2021
Introduction. One of the newest methods that could facilitate the diagnosis and treatment of multiple sclerosis is the measurement of neurofilament levels in the blood and spinal fluid.

The Case of a 28‐Year‐Old Woman With Medically Refractory Focal Epilepsy

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We present the case of a 28‐year‐old right‐handed woman with medically refractory focal epilepsy. Her seizure semiology and electroencephalography (EEG) indicated a seizure onset zone in the right central‐parietal area. However, both MRI and PET scans were unremarkable, showing no focal lesions or areas of altered metabolism.

Investigating the contribution of laboratory parameters on plasma neurofilament light chain levels in multiple sclerosis

open access: yesFrontiers in Neurology
ObjectiveTo investigate the associations between several laboratory parameters and plasma neurofilament light chain (pNfL) in individuals with multiple sclerosis (MS), as well as their additional contribution to the established relationships between pNfL,

Monoclonal Antibody Identification of Subpopulations of Cerebral Cortical Neurons Affected in Alzheimer disease [PDF]

open access: yes, 1987
Neuronal degeneration is one of the hallmarks of Alzheimer disease (AD). Given the paucity of molecular markers available for the identification of neuronal subtypes, the specificity of neuronal loss within the cerebral cortex has been difficult to ...

The McCance Brain Care Score and Mortality: Evidence From a Large‐Scale Population‐Based Cohort

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives This study aimed to examine the relationship between the McCance Brain Care Score (BCS) and mortality in the general population. Methods We conducted a prospective, population‐based cohort study using data from the UK Biobank. Participants with complete data enabling calculation of BCS and full mortality information were included ...
