Early changes in pro-inflammatory cytokine levels in neonates with encephalopathy are associated with remote epilepsy. [PDF]
BackgroundNeonatal seizures are associated with adverse neurologic sequelae including epilepsy in childhood. Here we aim to determine whether levels of cytokines in neonates with brain injury are associated with acute symptomatic seizures or remote ...

Midkine (MDK) is a mediator of the interaction between pancreatic cancer and beta cells. MDK, which originated from pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma cells, exerted deleterious effects on paraneoplastic beta cells by binding to the SDC4 receptor on the beta cell surface and subsequently downregulating the Ras signaling pathway, thereby impairing insulin

Widely Spread Butyrylcholinesterase Can Hydrolyze Acetylcholine in the Normal and Alzheimer Brain
Background: Butyrylcholinesterase (BChE), also known as the “pseudo” or “non-neuronal” cholinesterase, is traditionally thought to have a restricted CNS distribution and to play little, if any, role in cholinergic transmission.

Listerin Alleviates Alzheimer's Disease through IRE1‐mediated Decay of TLR4 mRNA
Alzheimer's disease (AD) progression is influenced by microglia‐mediated neuroinflammation. Here, it is demonstrated that Listerin suppresses neuroinflammatory signaling and cognitive impairment in AD models by triggering IRE1α‐mediated TLR4 mRNA decay. Adenoviral Listerin delivery reduces amyloid‐β pathology, positioning it as a new therapeutic target.

This study highlights the role of connexin43 (Cx43) in mediating glia activation and neuroinflammation in glaucoma. Using Cx43 knockout mice, it is shown that macroglial cells‐derived Cx43 modulates microglial activation, proliferation, migration, and polarization.
