An exploratory study into the effects of a 20 minute crushed ice application on knee joint position sense during a small knee bend. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Objectives The effect of cryotherapy on joint positioning presents conflicting debates as to whether individuals are at an increased risk of injury when returning to play or activity immediately following cryotherapy application at the knee.

Ethical and Frugal Approaches to Animal Experimentation in Bioelectronics and Neural Engineering—An Invertebrate Renaissance?

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
Invertebrates are the classic neuroscience models and should make a comeback. Invertebrate organisms can be a more ethical and cost‐effective way to move bioelectronics research forward more rapidly. ABSTRACT The accelerating development of bioelectronic neural interfaces has brought increased attention to ethical considerations surrounding in vivo ...

Postoperative residual block in postanesthesia care unit more than two hours after the administration of a single intubating dose of atracuriumFNx01

open access: yesJournal of Research in Medical Sciences, 2011
Background: Residual neuromuscular blockade continues to be a clinical problem after surgical procedures. The purpose of this study was to determine the incidence of residual paralysis in the postanesthesia care unit (PACU) after a single intubating dose

Trends in the use of neuromuscular blocking agents, reversal agents and neuromuscular transmission monitoring: a single-centre retrospective cohort study

open access: yesPerioperative Medicine
Background Residual neuromuscular blockade (rNMB) remains a persistent and preventable problem, with serious risks. Methods Our objective was to describe and assess patterns in the use of neuromuscular blocking agents (NMBAs), neuromuscular transmission (

Skin‐Conformal Myography for Real‐Time Hand Tracking Using a Laser‐Induced Graphene Strain Sensor Array

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, Volume 7, Issue 3, March 2025.
A skin‐conformal wearable device based on laser‐induced graphene is developed for continuous strain measurement across the circumference of the forearm for gesture recognition and hand‐tracking applications. Post material optimization, the strain sensor array is integrated with a wearable wireless readout circuit for real‐time control of a robotic arm,

EMG‐Driven Telemetry and Inference System for Fish: Pose Reconstruction and Flow Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This work introduces an electromyography (EMG)‐driven telemetry framework that reconstructs body pose and infers hydrodynamic conditions in freely swimming fish. A custom 16‐channel archival system records intramuscular EMG, enabling deep‐learning models to decode joint kinematics, classify flow regimes, and reveal channel‐efficient sensing strategies.

Data‐Driven Modeling of Forces Exerted by Pneumatic Actuators for a Pediatric Exosuit

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This work presents the experimental analysis and data‐driven modeling of the interaction forces between soft pneumatic actuators designed to assist upper‐extremity motion in a pediatric exosuit and an engineered test rig, across different experimental conditions: (A) force profiling of shoulder actuators, with varying actuator anchoring points and ...

Abnormal Action Potentials Associated with the Shaker Complex Locus of Drosophila [PDF]

open access: yes, 1981
Intracellular recordings of action potentials were made from the cervical giant axon in Shaker (Sh) mutants and normal Drosophila. The mutants showed abnormally long delays in repolarization.
