Leader neurons in leaky integrate and fire neural network simulations [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2010
Several experimental studies show the existence of leader neurons in population bursts of 2D living neural networks. A leader neuron is, basically, a neuron which fires at the beginning of a burst (respectively network spike) more often that we expect by looking at its whole mean neural activity.

Targeting the AKT/mTOR pathway attenuates the metastatic potential of colorectal carcinoma circulating tumor cells in a murine xenotransplantation model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dual targeting of AKT and mTOR using MK2206 and RAD001 reduces tumor burden in an intracardiac colon cancer circulating tumor cell xenotransplantation model. Analysis of AKT isoform‐specific knockdowns in CTC‐MCC‐41 reveals differentially regulated proteins and phospho‐proteins by liquid chromatography coupled mass spectrometry. Circulating tumor cells

Microglial reprogramming: a potential new frontier in enhancing immunotherapy for melanoma brain metastasis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Microglia act as tumor suppressors during brain metastasis colonization but shift to a tumor‐promoting role after melanoma brain metastases form. NF‐κB/RelA signaling emerges as a key driver of this phenotypic shift. Targeting this pathway reprograms microglia into a pro‐inflammatory state, enhancing antitumor immunity and immune checkpoint inhibitor ...

Information processing at single neuron level [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2008
Based on numerical simulation of Hodgkin and Huxley type neuron stimulated from many synaptic inputs, an abstract concept of signal processing in individual neuron is proposed. In the concept proposed, neuron performs binding of synaptic inputs into a single output event, based on the degree of temporal coherence between the inputs.

Distinct forms of synaptic inhibition and neuromodulation regulate calretinin positive neuron excitability in the spinal cord dorsal horn [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The dorsal horn (DH) of the spinal cord contains a heterogenous population of neurons that process incoming sensory signals before information ascends to the brain.

Neuronal Transcriptome of Aplysia: Neuronal Compartments and Circuitry [PDF]

open access: yesCell, 2006
Molecular analyses of Aplysia, a well-established model organism for cellular and systems neural science, have been seriously handicapped by a lack of adequate genomic information. By sequencing cDNA libraries from the central nervous system (CNS), we have identified over 175,000 expressed sequence tags (ESTs), of which 19,814 are unique neuronal gene ...

HDAC4 regulates apoptosis in Acan‐CreERT2;HDAC4d/d mice with osteoarthritis by downregulating ATF4

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Using the AcanCreERT2;HDAC4fl/fl genetic mouse model, we further investigated the role of histone deacetylase 4 (HDAC4) in chondrocyte apoptosis. We found that knocking down HDAC4 may be associated with chondrocyte apoptosis by upregulating the activating transcription factor 4 (ATF4)/CAAT/enhancer binding protein homologous (CHOP) signaling pathway ...

Evaluation of synaptotagmin‐1 action models by all‐atom molecular dynamics simulations

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We used molecular dynamics simulations to test models proposing that synaptotagmin‐1 facilitates membrane fusion by perturbing lipid bilayers, inducing membrane curvature and/or bridging membranes. The simulations show that synaptotagmin‐1 C2‐domains placed near the site of fusion hinder the ability of SNARE complexes to bring the membranes together ...

A potential tumor suppressor role of PLK2 in glioblastoma

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
PLK2 was consistently downregulated in GBM tissues. Overexpression of PLK2 in GBM cell lines U87MG and U251 reduced their tumorigenic potential and enhanced cell cycle arrest and apoptosis. Suggesting that PLK2 overexpression could potentially be leveraged as a therapeutic strategy to inhibit tumor progression and enhance apoptosis, providing new ...
