Prospective Longitudinal Cohort of Argentinean Patients with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy: A Platform for Epidemiological and Translational Research [PDF]
Abstract Background Progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP) and corticobasal syndrome (CBS) are two neurodegenerative disorders that manifest disabling postural instability, parkinsonism, cognitive impairment and falls with brain neurofibrillary tangle lesions containing 4‐repeat tau protein. The prevalence is 6/100,000 inhabitants but estimated only from

Novel early-onset Alzheimer-associated genes influence risk through dysregulation of glutamate, immune activation, and intracellular signaling pathways. [PDF]
Abstract INTRODUCTION Most genetic studies for Alzheimer's disease (AD) have been focused on late‐onset AD (LOAD). There are no large genetic studies on early‐onset AD (EOAD). METHODS We performed a multi‐ancestry (non‐Hispanic European, African, and East Asian) genome‐wide association study (GWAS) including a total of 7,349 cases and 17,887 control ...

Abstract Canine meningiomas are currently graded using the human grading system. Recently published guidelines have adapted the human grading system for use in dogs. The goal of this study was to validate the new guidelines for canine meningiomas. To evaluate the inter‐observer agreement, 5 veterinary surgical pathologists graded 158 canine meningiomas

The extraordinary complexity, and pathological biological activity, of monomeric C‐reactive protein within the brain parenchyma. Abstract Circulating C‐reactive protein (pCRP) concentrations rise dramatically during both acute (e.g., following stroke) or chronic infection and disease (e.g., autoimmune conditions such as lupus), providing complement ...

Genetic studies over the last few years, have changed the perception of late‐onset Alzheimer's disease (LOAD), highlighting its polygenic nature with multiple susceptibility genetic loci. We applied a multidimensional reduction approach to detect gene–gene interactions affecting LOAD by testing variants harbored by genes previously investigated in ...

We report for the first time that the protective effect of β‐hydroxybutyrate (BHB) against stroke and glucose deprivation is enantiomer selective. We discovered that D‐BHB treatment prevented the cleavage of the lysosomal membrane protein LAMP2, maintained lysosome integrity and stimulated the autophagic flux. Also, D‐BHB notably reduced the activation

Blockade of CaV3 calcium channels and induction of G0/G1 cell cycle arrest in colon cancer cells by gossypol. [PDF]
Abstract Background and Purpose Gastrointestinal tumours overexpress voltage‐gated calcium (CaV3) channels (CaV3.1, 3.2 and 3.3). CaV3 channels regulate cell growth and apoptosis colorectal cancer. Gossypol, a polyphenolic aldehyde found in the cotton plant, has anti‐tumour properties and inhibits CaV3 currents.
