Investigation of neuromuscular abnormalities in neurotrophin‐3‐deficient mice
European Journal of Neuroscience, 2009AbstractNeurotrophin‐3 (NT‐3) is a trophic factor that is essential for the normal development and maintenance of proprioceptive sensory neurons and is widely implicated as an important modulator of synaptic function and development. We have previously found that animals lacking NT‐3 have a number of structural abnormalities in peripheral nerves and ...

Lack of association of schizophrenia with the neurotrophin‐3 gene locus
Acta Psychiatrica Scandinavica, 1995A case‐control association study was conducted among patients with schizophrenia (DSM‐III‐R, n= 141) and unaffected controls (n= 177) of Caucasain and African‐American ethnicity. No significant differences in the distribution of a dinucleotide repeat polymorphism in the neurotrophin‐3 (NT‐3) gene were noted between the two groups.

Progress in Neuro-Psychopharmacology and Biological Psychiatry, 2015
Bipolar disorder (BD) has been associated with diverse abnormalities in neural plasticity and cellular resilience. Neurotrophin-3 (NT-3) and neurotrophin-4/5 (NT-4/5) support synaptic neuronal survival and differentiation. NT-3 and NT-4/5 levels were found to be altered in BD, potentially representing a physiological response against cellular stress ...

Specificity of neurotrophin-3 determined by loss-of-function mutagenesis
Journal of Neuroscience Research, 1997Neurotrophin-3 (NT-3) is a member of the family of neurotrophic factors, which also includes nerve growth factor (NGF) and which have specific activities on different subsets of vertebrate neurons. The aim of this study was to determine which residues in NT-3 direct its specificity to the cognate TrkC receptor.

Neurotrophin-3 in the development of the enteric nervous system
2004To date, the only neurotrophin that has been shown to influence the development of the enteric nervous system (ENS) is neurotrophin-3 (NT-3). NT-3 plays an essential role in the development of both the neural-crest-derived peripheral nervous system and the central nervous system (i.e., Chalazonitis, 1996, Mol.

AbstractHippocampal levels of mRNA encoding nerve growth factor (NGF) and brain‐derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) are rapidly induced by enhanced neuronal activity following seizures and glutamate or muscarinic receptor activation. However, the levels of neurotrophin‐3 (NT‐3) mRNA acutely decrease after limbic seizures suggesting that a different mode

In vivo effects of neurotrophin-3 during sensory neurogenesis
Development, 1996ABSTRACT The neurotrophins nerve growth factor, brain-derived neurotrophic factor and neurotrophin-3 are structurally related proteins regulating the number of neurons in peripheral ganglia of the nervous system. Increased levels of nerve growth factor or of brain-derived neurotrophic factor selectively prevent normally occurring ...
