The ion sources are modified JET PINIs with a three-grid accel-decel extraction system designed for 55 kV, 88 A, 4.8 MW, operated in hydrogen.

High-flux beam source of fast neutral helium
Review of Scientific Instruments, 1978A high-flux beam source of fast neutral helium has been constructed by extending the designs of previous authors. The source is a dc or pulsed electric discharge in an expanding gas nozzle. The beam produced has a flux on the order of 1015 atoms/s sr and a mean velocity on the order of 107 cm/s.
