The periplasmatron, An ion source for intense neutral beams

Microwave plasma source as an ion beam neutralizer

A 13.56 MHz radio-frequency (rf) driven multicusp ion source has been developed at the Fast Neutron Research Facility. An argon ion current density of 29 mA cm−2 can be obtained for argon gas at a pressure of 0.4 Pa, rf power of 500 W and extraction voltage of 3 kV.

CONDITIONING OF THE JET NEUTRAL BEAM SOURCES

The JET beam sources require several hundred beam pulses for conditioning up to 80 kV or 160 kV. Once conditioned, only some 30 pulses are required to recondition the sources after a shutdown of several weeks with the beam sources vented with atmospheric air.

Mathematical simulation of an inclined neutralization channel for a plasma source of neutral beams

An earlier developed model for a neutralization channel of a plasma source of neutral beams is applied to the case of an inclined neutralization channel. The energy and angular characteristics of the output beam are presented together with the neutralization factor as a function of the length and inclination angle of the channel.

Energy Distribution of Neutrals from a Hyperthermal Neutral Beam (HNB) Source

The energy distribution of the hyperthermal neutral beam (HNB) produced by impingement of plasma ions onto a metal surface was measured. A HNB source has been developed with a hotfilament discharge. The plasma was confined near the metal surface by using the magnetic field of a magnetron configuration.

New ion source for KSTAR neutral beam injection system

The neutral beam injection system (NBI-1) of the KSTAR tokamak can accommodate three ion sources; however, it is currently equipped with only one prototype ion source. In the 2010 and 2011 KSTAR campaigns, this ion source supplied deuterium neutral beam power of 0.7–1.6 MW to the KSTAR plasma with a beam energy of 70–100 keV.
