The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

On the existence of neutral directions of the normal gravity field

open access: yesContributions to Geophysics and Geodesy, 2014
A neutral direction of a gravity field is a direction along which the components of the gravity vector remain locally unchanged. A neutral point is a point at which there exists a neutral direction.

On the existence of a neutral region

open access: yes, 2012
Consider a given space, e.g., the Euclidean plane, and its decomposition into Voronoi regions induced by given sites. It seems intuitively clear that each point in the space belongs to at least one of the regions, i.e., no neutral region can exist.

Conserved structural motifs in PAS, LOV, and CRY proteins regulate circadian rhythms and are therapeutic targets

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cryptochrome and PAS/LOV proteins play intricate roles in circadian clocks where they act as both sensors and mediators of protein–protein interactions. Their ubiquitous presence in signaling networks has positioned them as targets for small‐molecule therapeutics. This review provides a structural introduction to these protein families.

Constraints on Europa’s Water Group Torus from HST/COS Observations

open access: yesThe Planetary Science Journal, 2023
In situ plasma measurements as well as remote mapping of energetic neutral atoms around Jupiter provide indirect evidence that an enhancement of neutral gas is present near the orbit of the moon Europa.

Neutral pion production with respect to reaction plane in Au+Au collisions at RHIC-PHENIX

open access: yes, 2009
It has been observed that the yield of neutral pions at high transverse momentum (pT $>$ 5 GeV/c) region is strongly suppressed in central Au+Au collisions at Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC), compared to the one expected in p+p collisions.

Half Metallic Bilayer Graphene [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Charge neutral bilayer graphene has a gapped ground state as transport experiments demonstrate. One of the plausible such ground states is layered antiferromagnetic spin density wave (LAF) state, where the spins in top and bottom layers have same ...

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Ring-strain release in neutral and dicationic 7,8,17,18-tetrabromo-5,10,15,20-tetraphenylporphyrin: crystal structures of C44H26Br4N4 and C44H28Br4N42+·2ClO4−·3CH2Cl2

open access: yesActa Crystallographica Section E: Crystallographic Communications, 2016
Two porphyrin complexes were studied to determine the effects of protonation on ring deformation within the porphyrin. The porphyrin 7,8,17,18-tetrabromo-5,10,15,20-tetraphenylporphyrin, C44H26Br4N4, was selected because the neutral species is readily ...

Effective and neutral stresses in soils using boundary element methods [PDF]

open access: yes, 1983
The evaluation of neutral pressures in soil mechanics problems is a fundamental step to evaluate deformations in soils. In this paper, we present some results obtained by using the boundary element method for plane problems, describing the undrained ...
