CO2-neutral sugar factory, in affordable steps

Sugar Industry, 2022
The first step for a sugar factory to become CO2 neutral is to replace the existing drum drier with a steam drier. The cost of this is approx. €250 per ton of CO2 reduction per year. In this first step, the CO2 emissions of the factory are reduced by approx.

Fluorometric analysis of amino sugars and derivatized neutral sugars

Analytical Biochemistry, 1982
Abstract A rapid and sensitive procedure for the analysis of neutral and amino sugars is presented. Neutral sugars are separated after conversion to the corresponding glycamines, while the amino sugars are analyzed without modification, using an automatic amino acid analyzer and fluorometric detection.

Roadmap Greenhouse Gas Neutral Sugar Industry in Germany – Pathways to Climate Neutrality 2050

Sugar Industry, 2021
To achieve greenhouse gas-neutral sugar production in Germany, a general realignment of energy production and energy sources is required. Three different solutions were investigated for this purpose. In two of the scenarios, beet pulp currently used for animal feed production would be used.

Simultaneous Assay of Neutral Sugars and Amino Sugars by an Automatic Sugar Analyzer. Applications to Glycoproteins

Hoppe-Seyler´s Zeitschrift für physiologische Chemie, 1975
The simultaneous assay of neutral sugars and amino sugars commonly found in glycoproteins is described. The automatic sugar analyzer used for the determination is based on the ion-exchange chromatography of sugar-borate complexes on a strong anion-exchange resin. The sugars are identified with the orcinol/sulfuric acid reagent.

Measurement of uronic acids without interference from neutral sugars

Analytical Biochemistry, 1991
Replacement of carbazole with meta-hydroxydiphenyl greatly improves the determination of uronic acids in the presence of neutral sugars by preventing substantially, but not completely, the browning that occurs during the heating of sugars in concentrated sulfuric acid and avoiding the formation of additional interference by the carbazole reagent ...

Microdetermination of neutral and amino sugars found in glycoproteins

Analytical Biochemistry, 1980
Abstract A liquid chromatographic method to analyze monosaccharides normally found in glycoprotein and glycopeptide hydrolysates is described. Monosaccharides are chromatographed as free sugars and as tritium-labeled alditols on an anion-exchange column in 0.5 m borate buffer, pH 8.6. Since the order of elution for aldoses and alditols is different,

Carbohydrates: Neutral and Minor Sugars

2011
This chapter covers carbohydrates, the most abundant class of biopolymers on Earth and significant components of water column particulate organic matter and dissolved organic matter in aquatic environments. Carbohydrates are important structural and storage molecules and are critical in the metabolism of terrestrial and aquatic organisms. Carbohydrates

Determination of neutral sugars in glycoproteins by gas—liquid chromatography

Journal of Chromatography A, 1968
Abstract A procedure is described for the quantitative hydrolysis, derivatization, and analysis by gas—liquid chromatography of the neutral monosaccharides in glyco-proteins. The new liquid phase combination employed gives resolution of eleven alditol acetates and shows a low level of baseline drift during temperature programming.

Simultaneous determination of neutral and amino sugars in biological materials

Journal of Chromatography A, 1990
A method is described for the simultaneous analysis of nine neutral and three amino sugars. Mixtures of standard sugars and biological samples were acid hydrolyzed with a two step Saeman procedure, neutralized with BaCO3, reduced with sodium borohydride, acidified, evaporated and alditol acetates prepared.
