Gas chromatography of neutral and amino sugars in glycoproteins
Analytical Biochemistry, 1971Abstract A gas chromatographic method for determining the neutral and amino sugars commonly found in glycoproteins of animal origin is described. Following mild acid hydrolysis, the solution is neutralized with Dowex 1 HCO3−, and the sugars are reduced to alditols in the cold with sodium borohydride.

Colorimetric Sugar Sensing Method Useful in “Neutral”Aqueous Media
Chemistry Letters, 2000Abstract Azobenzene derivatives bearing one or two aminomethylphenylboronic acid groups were synthesized: they were confirmed to be useful for practical colorimetric saccharide sensing in “neutral” aqueous media.

An accelerated system for analysis of neutral sugars in complex carbohydrates
Analytical Biochemistry, 1971Abstract An accelerated ion-exchange chromatography system for analysis of neutral sugar components in complex carbohydrates is described. Using DA-4 anion-exchange resin, and gradient elution with sodium borate, only 2.5 hr is required per analysis in this system.

Estimation of neutral sugars and sugar alcohols in biological fluids by gas-liquid chromatography
Journal of Chromatography A, 1980Gas-liquid chromatographic procedures for measuring sugar and polyol concentrations in biological fluids are reviewed. Such methods require the preparations of derivatives such as methyl ethers, trimethylsilyl ethers or acetyl esters. Prior to derivatisation samples must be deproteinised and dried.

Biochemistry, 1984
Natural and synthetic glycosphingolipids containing neutral sugars have been analyzed by positive and negative ion fast atom bombardment mass spectrometry. Basic structural characterization including saccharide size and sequence and ceramide composition is possible on the basis of the fragment ions observed.

Quantitative estimation of neutral sugars by gas—liquid chromatography
Journal of Chromatography A, 1969Abstract This paper reports an improved method for separating by isothermal gas—liquid chromatography, the hexoses, the pentoses, five deoxy sugars associated with natural products, and erythrose, as their alditol acetates. The solvent peak shows virtually no tailing, thus making quantitative estimation of the pentose sugars as accurate as that of ...

The determination of the individual neutral and amino sugars in carbohydrates
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - General Subjects, 1970Abstract An experimental study has been made of procedures for the acid hydrolysis and methanolysis of sugar polymers. Individual neutral and amino sugars in the products were examined by colorimetric methods and by gas-liquid chromatography of the trimethylsilyl derivatives.

Analysis of neutral sugars as glycamines using an amino acid analyzer
Analytical Biochemistry, 1979Abstract A new method of the analysis of neutral sugars was developed based on the separation of their corresponding glycamines. Sugars and ammonia were combined by means of the reduction with sodlum cyanoborohydride. The glycamines thus obtained were quantitatively analyzed by an automatic amino acid analyzer.

Colorimetric determination of neutral sugars by a resorcinol sulfuric acid micromethod
Analytical Biochemistry, 1988A microscale colorimetric assay for neutral sugars, in which neutral sugars react with resorcinol in the presence of 75% sulfuric acid solution is described. This assay, based on the use of microtiter plates with 96 U-shaped wells is simple and easy to handle; it allows accurate determinations with small samples (20 microliters) containing 1 to 100 ...

Automatic analysis of neutral sugar components in glycoproteins and complex carbohydrates
Journal of Biochemical and Biophysical Methods, 1980A simple and sensitive automated method has been developed to separate monosaccharides by reverse-phase chromatography using the amino acid analyzer column in the Li+ form with 90% alcohol as eluent. The column can be regenerated with LiBr and 90% ethanol to achieve highly reproducible resolution of sugar components.
