Neutron powder diffraction

2007
An introduction is given to neutrons and their scattering from assemblies of atoms. This is linked with how neutrons may be exploited in the study of a variety of phenomena in the fields of crystallography, magnetism, solid-state reaction chemistry, engineering and materials science.

Neutron diffraction of interphase nuclei

Journal of Molecular Biology, 1982
Abstract The neutron small-angle diffraction patterns obtained with native interphase nuclei are quite featureless and difficult to interpret. However, the difference between two patterns which have been obtained before and after having induced a change in the packing of the more stable structural entities, e.g.

Neutron diffraction studies of digalactosyldiacylglycerol

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Biomembranes, 1988
The structure of the digalactosyldiacylglycerol bilayer is calculated using neutron diffraction data. The polar head group of this lipid is oriented parallel to the plane of the bilayer such that the galactose moieties are tightly packed at the bilayer surface into a 0.8 nm thick polar layer. The thickness of this layer is independent of water activity

Fundamentals of Neutron Diffraction

1989
The purpose of this article is to describe the differences between neutron diffraction and X-ray diffraction, and to give specific examples of how these differences have been exploited in the study of biological structures. Those who wish a comprehensive treatment of this topic can turn to a number of reviews and symposium volumes that deal with the ...

Specimens for neutron diffraction

2006
The size and shape of single crystals and polycrystalline samples for diffraction studies are described. The maximum size is determined by the absorption cross section of the sample, and the minimum size by the available neutron flux.
