New Sincerity and the Contemporary American Family Novel
The present thesis examines the relationship between two contemporary phenomena: the rise of a new sincerity and a renaissance of family fiction. It treats sincerity not as a moral quality, but as a rhetorical strategy that first emerged in early modern Europe to build trust among the members of an increasingly diversified society.
