Newts: Sun-Compass Orientation
Science, 1967Rough-skinned newts, captured from breeding ponds, oriented on courses that would have intersected the familiar shorelines at right angles, when released in a circular arena on land under the sun or moon. Pondward migrants oriented similarly. Reorientation failed under complete cloud cover and after 7 days of darkness in an environmental chamber, but ...

Mutagenesis in Newts: Protocol for Iberian Ribbed Newts
2016Newts have the remarkable capability of organ/tissue regeneration, and have been used as a unique experimental model for regenerative biology. The Iberian ribbed newt (Pleurodeles waltl) is suitable as a model animal. We have established methods for artificial insemination and efficient transgenesis using P. waltl newts.

Peptides, 2004
This article reviews the current state of understanding of reproductive pheromones in amphibians, focusing mainly on the purification and characterization of peptide pheromones in newts of the genus Cynops, molecular cloning of cDNAs encoding the pheromone molecules, and hormonal control of secretion of these pheromones.

Current Biology
Matheson et al. introduce the Iberian ribbed newt (Pleurodeles waltl), a species of salamander that lives some of its adult life on land and some in water, requiring remarkable physiological and behavioral plasticity to adapt to these very different environments.

Expression pattern of a newt Notch homologue in regenerating newt retina
Developmental Brain Research, 2001We isolated part of a newt Notch homologue, N-Notch, from regenerating newt retina. The spatio-temporal pattern of N-Notch expression was studied by in situ hybridization at different stages of newt retinal regeneration. Proliferating cells were confirmed by the injection of bromodeoxyuridine (BrdU).

This chapter considers the most serious and sustained effort yet to defund NPR: that of Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich and the Republican-controlled House of Representatives elected in November 1994. A central contention of the abolitionists was that NPR was “elitist,” and both scholarly studies and NPR's own data reveal that its listeners do fit a

Tetrodotoxin in Asian newts (Salamandridae)
Toxicon, 2017Tetrodotoxin (TTX) and its analogues occur in a wide range of marine animals but also in terrestrial vertebrates such as frogs, toads and newts. Despite numerous studies on TTX in New World newts (Notophthalmus viridescens, Taricha spp.), few data only exist for Asian newts.
