Stochastic Quasi-Newton Methods for Nonconvex Stochastic Optimization [PDF]

open access: yesSIAM Journal on Optimization, 2016
In this paper we study stochastic quasi-Newton methods for nonconvex stochastic optimization, where we assume that only stochastic information of the gradients of the objective function is available via a stochastic first-order oracle (SFO).

3D (Bio) Printing Combined Fiber Fabrication Methods for Tissue Engineering Applications: Possibilities and Limitations

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Biofabrication aims at providing innovative technologies and tools for the fabrication of tissue‐like constructs for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine applications. By integrating multiple biofabrication technologies, such as 3D (bio) printing with fiber fabrication methods, it would be more realistic to reconstruct native tissue's ...

Quasi-ordinary singularities and Newton trees [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In this paper we study some properties of the class of nu-quasi-ordinary hypersurface singularities. They are defined by a very mild condition on its (projected) Newton polygon.

Copper Doping Enhances the Activity and Selectivity of Atomically Precise Ag44 Nanoclusters for Photocatalytic CO2 Reduction

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
By a simple anti‐Galvanic reaction, up to six copper atoms could be preferably doped into the Ag2(SR)5 staple motifs and Ag20 dodecahedral shell of an atomically precise Ag44(SR)30 nanocluster. When anatase TiO2 is used as substrate, the (AgCu)44/TiO2 photocatalyst exhibited much improved activity in photocatalytic CO2 reduction compared to Ag44/TiO2 ...

On a Newton filtration for functions on a curve singularity

open access: yes, 2012
In a previous paper, there was defined a multi-index filtration on the ring of functions on a hypersurface singularity corresponding to its Newton diagram generalizing (for a curve singularity) the divisorial one.

Near‐Infrared Emitting Lanthanide Catecholate Giant Single Crystals – Morphology Control and Photon Down‐Conversion

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Controlled syntheses of lanthanide coordination polymers based on the dihydroxybenzoquinone (DHBQ) organic linker afforded large single crystals of Ln‐DHBQ CPs (Ln = Yb, Nd). A novel structural variant of Yb‐DHBQ is identified by means of single crystal diffraction analysis.

IQN: An Incremental Quasi-Newton Method with Local Superlinear Convergence Rate [PDF]

open access: yesSIAM Journal on Optimization, 2017
The problem of minimizing an objective that can be written as the sum of a set of $n$ smooth and strongly convex functions is considered. The Incremental Quasi-Newton (IQN) method proposed here belongs to the family of stochastic and incremental methods ...

Expanding Chemical Space of Nucleic Acid Nanoparticles for Tunable Antiviral‐Like Immunomodulatory Responses and Potent Adjuvant Activity

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We introduce a nucleic acid nanoparticle (NANP) platform designed to be rrecognized by the human innate immune system in a regulated manner. By changing chemical composition while maintaining constant architectural parameters, we identify key determinants of immunorecognition enabling the rational design of NANPs with tunable immune activation profiles
