A Context-Choice Model of Niche Entrepreneurship

open access: yesEntrepreneurship Theory and Practice, 2020
Entrepreneurship research has gravitated towards a singular focus on the Silicon Valley model as the standard model of entrepreneurship. By contrast, some entrepreneurship scholars have more recently suggested embracing entrepreneurship as diverse and colorful.

Phylogeography and species limits in the red‐shouldered hawk (Buteo lineatus): Characterization of the Northern Florida Suture Zone in birds

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, 2019
The North American red‐shouldered hawk, Buteo lineatus, is comprised of two widely allopatric eastern and western populations with an additional well‐marked subspecies in the Florida peninsula.

Biodiversity protection against anthropogenic climate change: Conservation prioritization of Castanea sativa in the South Caucasus based on genetic and ecological metrics

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, 2023
The climate drives species distribution and genetic diversity; the latter defines the adaptability of populations and species. The ongoing climate crisis induces tree decline in many regions, compromising the mitigation potential of forests.

A simplex model for layered niche networks [PDF]

open access: yesComplexity, 2008
AbstractThe standing crop of correlations in metazoan communities may be assessed by an inventory of niche structures focused inward and outward from the physical boundaries of skin (self), gene‐pool (family), and meme‐pool (culture). We consider tracking the progression from three and four correlation layers in many animal communities, to five of six ...

Claudin‐6 Protein Expression in Atypical Teratoid/Rhabdoid Tumors Is Strongly Enriched in the Molecular Subgroup AT/RT‐TYR

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Claudin‐6 has emerged as a promising immunotherapeutic target, yet protein‐level data in atypical teratoid/rhabdoid tumors (AT/RTs) have been inconsistent. We analyzed 36 well‐characterized AT/RT samples and found membranous claudin‐6 protein expression in 58% of cases, with striking enrichment in the molecular subgroup AT/RT‐TYR (100%) and ...

Divergence in the ecological niches of the white wagtail (Motacilla alba Linnaeus, 1758) complex using the ecological niche modeling approach [PDF]

open access: yesIranian Journal of Animal Biosystematics, 2017
The mtDNA data presently being used for estimating biodiversity is not sufficient for evaluating the Motacilla alba complex species status. Because there is a lack of congruence between morphological and mtDNA data, there are debates about the best ...

Organoids in pediatric cancer research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

Invasive Plant Species Establishment and Range Dynamics in Sri Lanka under Climate Change

open access: yesEntropy, 2019
Plant invasion has been widely recognized as an agent of global change that has the potential to have severe impacts under climate change. The challenges posed by invasive alien plant species (IAPS) on biodiversity and ecosystem stability is growing and ...

Want to model a species niche? A step-by-step guideline on correlative ecological niche modelling

open access: yesEcological Modelling, 2021
The use of correlative ecological niche models has highly increased in the last decade. Despite all literature and textbooks in this field, few practical guidelines exist on the correct application of these techniques. We present here a step-by-step guideline explaining best practices for calculating correlative ecological niche models considering ...

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.
