In Vivo Biosynthesis and Direct Incorporation of Non‐Canonical Amino Acids into Proteins
Autonomous cells are engineered biological systems capable of biosynthesising and directly incorporating non‐canonical amino acids (ncAAs) into proteins. These systems have the potential to extend the applicability of the genetic code to enable large‐scale fermentative production of proteins carrying ncAAs.

Coproporphyrinogenase in tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.) [PDF]
1. Coproporphyrinogenase was extracted and purified from tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.). Enzyme activity was mainly located in mitochondria rather than in chloroplasts. The enzyme was purified by differential centrifugation, ammonium sulphate fractionation, calcium phosphate gel adsorption and dialysis. A 69-fold final purification was obtained. 2.

The reaction mechanism of 5‐enolpyruvylshikimate‐3‐phosphate synthase from Nicotiana tabacum (NtEPSPS) is elucidated using quantum chemical calculations. The proposed mechanism involves four sequential steps: carbocation intermediate formation, tetrahedral intermediate formation, rate‐limiting C−O bond cleavage, and C=C bond re‐formation.
