Ruling out pyridine dinucleotides as true TRPM2 channel activators reveals novel direct agonist ADP-ribose-2'-phosphate [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Transient receptor potential melastatin 2 (TRPM2), a Ca(2+)-permeable cation channel implicated in postischemic neuronal cell death, leukocyte activation, and insulin secretion, is activated by intracellular ADP ribose (ADPR).

Mechanism of the inhibition of elevated CO2 atmosphere on enzymatic browning of fresh-cut lotus roots

open access: yes浙江大学学报. 农业与生命科学版, 2020
Enzymatic browning is one of the main factors affecting the quality and shelf life of fresh-cut lotus root. The present study aimed to investigate the mechanism of inhibition of elevated carbon dioxide (CO2) on enzymatic browning by applying 20% CO2 to ...

Degradation of reactive red 195 by selected bacteria from textile wastewater [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Four selected bacterial strains coded R1, R2, Rc and Rd were successfully isolated from raw textile wastewater. They were screened for their ability to degrade an azo dye of Reactive Red 195 on solid and in liquid dye-containing media.

Cytosolic redox components regulate protein homeostasis via additional localisation in the mitochondrial intermembrane space [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Oxidative protein folding is confined to the bacterial periplasm, endoplasmic reticulum and the mitochondrial intermembrane space. Maintaining a redox balance requires the presence of reductive pathways.

PARP inhibitors elicit distinct transcriptional programs in homologous recombination competent castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PARP inhibitors are used to treat a small subset of prostate cancer patients. These studies reveal that PARP1 activity and expression are different between European American and African American prostate cancer tissue samples. Additionally, different PARP inhibitors cause unique and overlapping transcriptional changes, notably, p53 pathway upregulation.

Currency and commodity metabolites: Their identification and relation to the modularity of metabolic networks

open access: yes, 2006
The large-scale shape and function of metabolic networks are intriguing topics of systems biology. Such networks are on one hand commonly regarded as modular (i.e.

PARP inhibition and pharmacological ascorbate demonstrate synergy in castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pharmacologic ascorbate (vitamin C) increases ROS, disrupts cellular metabolism, and induces DNA damage in CRPC cells. These effects sensitize tumors to PARP inhibition, producing synergistic growth suppression with olaparib in vitro and significantly delayed tumor progression in vivo. Pyruvate rescue confirms ROS‐dependent activity.

NAD kinase promotes Staphylococcus aureus pathogenesis by supporting production of virulence factors and protective enzymes

open access: yeseLife, 2022
Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH) is the primary electron donor for reductive reactions that are essential for the biosynthesis of major cell components in all organisms.
