Serum Visfatin Level and Cardiac Valve Calcifcation in Hemodialysis Patients

open access: yesHemodialysis International, Volume 30, Issue 1, Page 101-109, January 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Cardiac valve calcification is a serious complication in patients with cardiovascular disease. This study investigated the relationship between visfatin levels and cardiac valve calcification in individuals undergoing hemodialysis.

Gene regulation and epigenotype in Friedreich's ataxia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Friedreich??????s ataxia (FRDA) is known to be provoked by an abnormal GAA-repeat expansion located in the first intron of the FXN gene. As a result of the GAA expansion, patients exhibit low levels of FXN mRNA, leading to FRDA.

Disruption of Gut Microbiota‐Mediated De Novo NAD+ Synthesis Contributes to the Development of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 12, Issue 45, December 4, 2025.
This study demonstrates that patients with PCOS exhibit altered gut microbial profiles, and FMT from PCOS patients induces PCOS‐like symptoms in mice. Specifically, gut dysbiosis reduces 3‐HAA levels in the context of PCOS. Administration of 3‐HAA to mice alleviates PCOS by promoting de novo NAD+ synthesis.

Regulation of Peripheral Molecular Clocks in Mammalian Tissues and In Vitro Skeletal Muscle Activation of AMP-Activated Protein Kinase via AICAR

open access: yes, 2014
Most organisms possess a common molecular machinery that governs cellular and tissue circadian rhythmicity through a roughly 24-hour transcription-translation feedback loop.

The human silent information regulator (Sir)2 homologue hSIRT3 is a mitochondrial nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide-dependent deacetylase. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
The yeast silent information regulator (Sir)2 protein links cellular metabolism and transcriptional silencing through its nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD)-dependent histone deacetylase activity.

Function of NAD metabolism in white adipose tissue: lessons from mouse models

open access: yesAdipocyte
Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide (NAD) is an endogenous substance in redox reactions and regulates various functions in metabolism. NAD and its precursors are known for their anti-ageing and anti-obesity properties and are mainly active in the liver and

Nucleosided derived antibiotics to fight microbial drug resistance: New utilities for an established class of drugs? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Novel antibiotics are urgently needed to combat the rise of infections due to drug-resistant microorganisms. Numerous natural nucleosides and their synthetically modified analogues have been reported to have moderate to good antibiotic activity against ...
