Straightforward Electrochemical Sulfonylation of Arenes and Aniline Derivatives using Sodium Sulfinates

open access: yesChemElectroChem, Volume 6, Issue 17, Page 4450-4455, September 2, 2019., 2019
No additional supporting electrolyte needed! By utilizing the approved 1,1,1,3,3,3‐hexafluoropropan‐2‐ol (HFIP)/boron‐doped diamond (BDD) system, an electrochemical sulfonylation of arenes and aniline derivatives has been established. The dual function of the sulfinates as supporting electrolyte and coupling substrate, ensures a sustainable and waste ...

Highly Transparent LiAl5O8 Ceramics Prepared by Spark Plasma Sintering and Its Luminescence

open access: yesJournal of the American Ceramic Society, Volume 109, Issue 5, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Transparent ceramics of LiAl5O8 were prepared by spark plasma sintering (SPS) using precursor powders synthesized via solid‐state reaction. The effects of sintering dwell time and cooling regime on the microstructure, transparency, and cracking of the sintered ceramics were investigated.

An Overview of Methods for Blast Load Testing and Devices for Pressure Measurement

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, Volume 2018, Issue 1, 2018., 2018
A brief review of experimental methods for testing blast effects on structures is presented. Methods are classified in four groups: field tests, shock tubes, pendulum systems, and new techniques (blast simulator). Description of each method is given together with overall specification of possible instruments used in each test.

Ce3+‐Activated Lithium Rare‐Earth Oxonitridolithosilicates: A New Class of LED Phosphors with Similarities to Garnets

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 35, Issue 44, October 29, 2025.
Garnet‐like luminescence upon Ce3+‐activation is found in the first six representatives Li9RESi4N4O8 (RE = Y, La, Gd, Dy, Yb, Lu) of the substance class of lithium rare‐earth oxonitridolithosilicates, which also show a novel structure type. High‐temperature solid‐state synthesis yielded crystalline samples for single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction‐based ...

Geographically multifarious phenotypic divergence during speciation

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 3, Issue 3, Page 595-613, March 2013., 2013
A male Lycaeides investigates one of the female wing pattern models at Bull Creek in Wyoming. Abstract Speciation is an important evolutionary process that occurs when barriers to gene flow evolve between previously panmictic populations. Although individual barriers to gene flow have been studied extensively, we know relatively little regarding the ...

Interactions of rare earth elements with living organisms and emerging biotechnical applications

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, Volume 7, Issue 5, Page 1251-1274, September 2025.
Rare earth elements (REEs) are critical resources required to achieve net‐zero carbon emission targets and energy security. However, rising demand for REEs coupled with significant extraction and processing challenges and geopolitical risks restricts access to REE resources.

The ABCs of Experimental Evolution

open access: yesInternational Scholarly Research Notices, Volume 2013, Issue 1, 2013., 2013
Microbial evolution is complex and is influenced by many sources of variation. Experimental evolution is no exception, although it is more controlled, easily replicated, and typically devoid of interactions between species. Mathematical modeling of the evolutionary process can help in understanding the underlying mechanisms that drive outcome of such ...

A Simplified Approach for Electrochemical Allylic Oxidation of Olefins

open access: yesHelvetica Chimica Acta, Volume 108, Issue 7, July 2025.
A simple method for electrochemical allylic oxidation of olefins is established. t‐Butyl hydroperoxide serves in a dual‐role as mediator and oxygen source. Metal‐free and robust electrode materials such as glassy carbon, graphite, or boron‐doped diamond can be employed.

Highly Luminous Scintillating Nanocomposites Enable Ultrafast Time Coincidence Resolution for γ‐rays Detection with Heterostructured Multilayer Scintillators

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 35, Issue 17, April 25, 2025.
A scintillating polymeric composites loaded with hafnia nanoparticles is engineered to obtain a highly luminous material, thus achieving a 400% improvement of the scintillation yield under soft X‐rays. The nanocomposite is employed to realize a multilayer heterostructured prototype scintillator than enable for ultrafast time coincidence resolution in ...
