Hemoparasite and hematological parameters in Nile tilapia
Comparative Clinical Pathology, 2012The accelerated growth of finfish aquaculture has resulted in a series of health problems, including blood disorders by hemoparasites; there are scarce studies about these agents and their impact in actual intensive farming. The aim of this study was to identify and quantify the hemoparasites present in monocytes and erythrocytes in the blood of ...

Levels of copper in Nile tilapia from Brazil
Food Additives and Contaminants: Part B, 2011The purpose of this work was to determine the concentration of copper in samples of farmed Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus L.) fillets purchased in the city of Botucatu (São Paulo, Brazil) and in fillet and liver samples of Tilapia fed diets supplemented with different concentrations of Cu from the Laboratory of Aquatic Organism Nutrition/FMVZ ...

Abstract The resistance to disease caused by the Aeromonas sobria in three genotypes of tilapia, Nile tilapia ( Oreochromis niloticus ), blue tilapia ( Oreochromis aureus ) and their hybrid (female Nile tilapia×male blue tilapia) was studied . Based on comparison of median lethal dose (LD 50 ), functions of nonspecific immunity, including total ...

Nile Tilapia Oreochromis niloticus (L.)
2017Nile tilapia Oreochromis niloticus (L.) is one of the most widely cultured and most widespread invasive fish species globally. It was the most common alien fish species in South China where it has successfully established populations in the major rivers, and became the dominant species in many sites.

Nile tilapia invades the Lake Malawi catchment
African Journal of Aquatic Science, 2013The Lake Malawi/Nyasa catchment contains over 835 endemic cichlid fish species. This unique biodiversity has made it widely recognised as one of the world’s most significant freshwater ecosystems. Here we report the first occurrence records of two invasive tilapiines, Oreochromis niloticus and Oreochromis leucostictus, inside the Lake Malawi catchment.

Abstract The aims of this study were to purify and localize the nitric oxide synthases (NOSs) from hybrid tilapia (Nile tilapia Oreochromis niloticus × Mozambique tilapia O. mossambicus). The purification procedures involved affinity chromatography with a 2′, 5′-ADP-agarose 4B column and ion exchange with a diethylaminoethanol Bio-Gel A ...

A place preference test in the fish Nile tilapia
Journal of Experimental Animal Science, 2006Abstract The Nile tilapia fish ( Oreochromis niloticus ) has a high potential to be used as a model in neuroscience studies. In the present study, the preference of the Nile tilapia between a gravel-enriched (GEE), a shelter-enriched (SEE) or a non-enriched (NEE) environment was determined, for developing a place preference model. Nile tilapia had an
