Probiotic Bacillus safensis NPUST1 Administration Improves Growth Performance, Gut Microbiota, and Innate Immunity against Streptococcus iniae in Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus)

open access: yesMicroorganisms, 2021
Probiotics are considered ecofriendly alternatives to antibiotics as immunostimulants against pathogen infections in aquaculture. In the present study, protease-, amylase-, cellulase-, and xylanase-producing Bacillus safensis NPUST1 were isolated from ...

Dietary supplementation with probiotics regulates gut microbiota structure and function in Nile tilapia exposed to aluminum [PDF]

open access: yesPeerJ, 2019
Backgrounds and aims Aluminum contamination of water is becoming increasingly serious and threatens the health status of fish. Lactobacillus plantarum CCFM639 was previously shown to be a potential probiotic for alleviation aluminum toxicity in Nile ...

Effects of starvation and subsequent re-feeding on intestinal microbiota, and metabolic responses in Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus

open access: yesAquaculture Reports, 2020
The effects of starvation and re-feeding on Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) remain incompletely understood so far. In this study, the changes of intestinal microbiota, the metabolic and immune (antioxidant) responses of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis ...

Fatty acid composition of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) and Red hybrid tilapia (Oreochromis mossambicus X Oreochromis niloticus) reared in intensive and extensive systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Fish and marine mammals are among the richest sources of long–chain n-3 and n-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) in nature. As farmed fish becomes a major contributor to world fish supplies, hence it is important to maintain the high lipid nutritional ...

Comparative Meta‐Analysis of Antimicrobial Peptides in Aquatic and Terrestrial Livestock Species

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
A global meta‐analysis of 58 studies (926 effect sizes and 29 species across five taxa) revealed that dietary antimicrobial peptides generally improve growth performance, blood metabolites, and immune responses. The greatest benefits were observed in omnivorous livestock, such as pigs and chickens. Dose‐duration effects were evident. An optimal outcome

Deteksi Koi Herpesvirus (KHV) pada Ikan Nila (Oreochromis niloticus) yang Diinfeksi secara Buatan
[ Detection of Koi Herpesvirus (KHV) in Nile Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) Infected by Artificially Infection ]

open access: yesJurnal Ilmiah Perikanan dan Kelautan, 2015
Koi Herpesvirus (KHV) was formerly known as Cyprinid herpesvirus-3 (CyHV-3) and carp nephritis interstitial and necrosis gill virus (CNGV) is a virus that infects common carp and koi (Cyprinus carpio and C. carpio koi) in farmed and wild population.

Adaptation, growth and survival of tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) in Bafgh brackish water [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
An experiment was conducted to evaluate the possibility of adaptation, growth and survival of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) with 0.3g initial weight and red tilapia (Oreochromis sp.) with 0.7g initial weight in underground brackish water.

Digestibility of triticale by Nile tilapia

open access: yes, 2022
This work aimed to determine the dry matter (DM), crude protein (CP), gross energy (GE) and essential aminoacid (EAA) digestibility coefficient of triticale by Nile tilapia. Fish with 112.00 ± 22.00g average weight were used to digestibility test. Reference diet was formulated with purified ingredients and triticale replaced 30% of this diet.

Longitudinal Modulation of the Gut Microbiome and Growth Performance by Phytochemicals as Antibiotic Alternatives in Swine Production

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
We conducted a longitudinal trial across nursery, growing, and finishing phases, showing that phytochemical supplementation as a potential antibiotic alternative reduced potential pathogens and promoted beneficial Lactobacillus amylovorus in the nursery phase, and enriched amino acid and carbohydrate metabolism pathways (prediction) during finishing ...

Lead and cadmium content in Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) from Egypt: A study for their molecular biomarkers

open access: yesScientific African, 2021
This study was conducted to examine the residual levels of lead (Pb) and cadmium (Cd) in Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) collected from three locations (Abbassa, Damietta, and El-Husseiniya) in Egypt.
