Surface oxidation of NiTi shape memory alloy
Mechanically polished NiTi alloy (50 at% Ni) was subjected to heat treatment in air in the temperature range 300-800 degrees C and characterised by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and Raman spectroscopy. Thermogravimetry measurements were carried out to investigate the kinetics of oxidation. The results

Drilling of NiTi Shape Memory Alloys
Materialwissenschaft und Werkstofftechnik, 2004AbstractThe machinability of NiTi based shape memory alloys has been examined by conducting drilling experiments. For this reason the cutting parameters cutting speed and feed were varied within a wide range. The machining process was evaluated in terms of tool wear, cutting forces and machining quality.

This paper studies the effect of Ta addition on the martensitic transformation characteristics and the X-ray visibility of NiTi shape memory alloys. It was found that: (1) The transformation temperatures of the Ti 49 Ni 51 binary alloy increase drastically by an addition of 0 -- 4at%Ta, but only slightly when the concentration exceeds 4at%.

Analysis of a NiTi Shape Memory Alloy
Materials Science Forum, 2015This work demonstrates particularly the basic properties of shape memory alloys and gives a brief review about their basic crystallographic processes. The attributes of shape memory alloys will be presented through the NiTi alloys. The crystallographic principles of three unique properties were investigated and the functional mechanism described.

The triple-shape memory effect in NiTi shape memory alloys
Smart Materials and Structures, 2012We report two approaches to realize the triple-shape memory effect (SME), i.e., returning to the original shape from the temporary shape through one intermediate shape in a gradual/step-by-step heating induced recovery, in NiTi shape memory alloys (SMAs).

Thermomechanical Models for NiTi Shape Memory Alloys and Their Applications
ASME 2010 Conference on Smart Materials, Adaptive Structures and Intelligent Systems, Volume 1, 2010Optimal design of SMA structures must be based on a deep knowledge of the material properties. As the SMA structures increase in complexity (stents, textiles, microdevices), modeling becomes increasingly involved. Macroscopic models of shape memory alloys are being developed with the ultimate aim to effectively simulate thermomechanical response of a ...

Thermal processing of polycrystalline NiTi shape memory alloys
Materials Science and Engineering: A, 2004ABSTRACTThe objective of this study is to examine the effect of heat treatment on polycrystalline Ti-50.9 at.%Ni subsequent to hot-rolling. In particular we examine microstructure, transformation temperatures and mechanical behavior of deformation processed NiTi.
