Fretting Wear of NiTi - Shape-Memory Alloy

2016
This study presents the results of tests of friction processes and fretting wear of NiTi shape-memory alloy, which is used in orthodontics and surgery. This research problem is significant because nickel ions released as a result of nitinol wear exhibit toxic action in the human body.

Elastic fields in NiTi shape memory alloys

SPIE Proceedings, 2001
This paper includes the results of experimental investigation and calculations of changes in residual stresses in NiTi shape memory alloys. For this purpose, the test of thermal and mechanical loading on the samples of Ni 50 Ti 50 was performed. One-way and two-way shape memory effects were observed during loading and heating, i.e.

Functionally graded NiTi shape memory alloys

Ciência & Tecnologia dos Materiais, 2017
Abstract In this study, in order to obtain a functionally graded material, NiTi strips were annealed at 350 °C, 450 °C and 550 °C in a furnace using an assembly that allowed a temperature gradient along them, and their transformation temperatures were studied by Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC).

Bioactive modification of NiTi shape memory alloy

SPIE Proceedings, 2007
NiTi wire was anodized in phosphoric acid, diluted hydrogen fluoride, and fluoric ions containing non-aqueous electrolytes. Surface morphologies and compositions of modified NiTi wires were characterized by using field-emission scanning electron microscopic (FESEM) equipped with an energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS).

Turning and Drilling of NiTi Shape Memory Alloys

CIRP Annals, 2004
Abstract Shape memory alloys based on NiTi have a high potential for a large variety of applications. This functional material is very difficult to machine because of its high ductility, its different shape memory properties in dependence on temperature and the strong work hardening when this material is deformed.

Revkrsion stresses in NiTi shape memory alloys

Scripta Metallurgica, 1988

Laser welding of NiTi shape memory alloy

PICALO 2008: 3rd Pacific International Conference on Laser Materials Processing, Micro, Nano and Ultrafast Fabrication, 2008
With high energy YAG Laser beam method, the weld ability of the NiTi shape memory alloy sheet was studied. The mechanical properties of both reference and laser welded samples were tested by stress–strain measurements. A systematic comparison of the results was carried out.

Engineering applications of NiTi shape memory alloys

Materials Science and Engineering: A, 2008
Abstract This paper considers the use of martensitic NiTi shape memory alloys (SMAs) for technical applications in drive technology with a focus on bearing and gear technology. Within bearing technology, SMAs can be applied for the clearance adjustment of taper roller bearings using the extrinsic two-way effect.

Fracture of precipitated NiTi shape memory alloys

International Journal of Fracture, 2001
The fracture mechanisms in single crystal and polycrystalline Ti-50.8at%Ni shape memory alloys containing Ti3Ni4 precipitates are studied using the scanning electron microscope (SEM). Aged materials with three different precipitate sizes (50 nm, 150 nm, and 400 nm), which have interfaces ranging from semi-coherent to incoherent, are considered.
