The Relationship Between Groundwater Nitrate Pollution and Crime in United States: Nitrate-Crime Hypothesis [PDF]
Groundwater is a crucial source of drinking water, but it is often contaminated with water-soluble pollutants that can pose significant health risks. Among these pollutants, nitrate has been extensively studied and found to be harmful to human health in high concentrations.

The food-borne pathogen Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium benefits from acute inflammation in part by using host-derived nitrate to respire anaerobically and compete successfully with the commensal microbes during growth in the intestinal lumen ...

Does nitrate deposition following astrophysical ionizing radiation events pose an additional threat to amphibians? [PDF]
It is known that amphibians are especially susceptible to the combination of heightened UVB radiation and increased nitrate concentrations. Various astrophysical events have been suggested as sources of ionizing radiation that could pose a threat to life on Earth, through destruction of the ozone layer and subsequent increase in UVB, followed by ...

Effect of Ammonium and Nitrate on Ferric Chelate Reductase and Nitrate Reductase in Vaccinium Species [PDF]
Most Vaccinium species have strict soil requirements for optimal growth, requiring low pH, high iron availability and nitrogen primarily in the ammonium form. These soils are limited and are often located near wetlands. Vaccinium arboreum is a wild species adapted to a wide range of soils, including high pH, low iron, and nitrate-containing soils. This

Protein cysteine residues can be oxidized by nitric oxide (NO) to form protein S‐nitrosothiols (SNOs) in a process called S‐nitrosylation. S‐nitrosoglutathione reductase (GSNOR) is a highly specific denitrase for GSNO; it controls the intracellular levels of GSNO and protein SNOs and protects the body from nitrosative stress.

The magnetosomes of many magnetotactic bacteria consist of membrane-enveloped magnetite crystals, whose synthesis is favored by a low redox potential. However, the cellular redox processes governing the biomineralization of the mixed-valence iron oxide ...

Relationships between nitrate uptake and nitrate reductase activity in Cucumis sativus L.
Anti-NR IgG fragments obtained after papain digestion of polyclonal antibodies gave the positive immunological reaction with both, a soluble and plasma membrane-bound nitrate reductase.

The NAD(P)H:flavin oxidoreductase from Escherichia coli. Evidence for a new mode of binding for reduced pyridine nucleotides [PDF]
The NAD(P)H:flavin oxidoreductase from Escherichia coli, named Fre, is a monomer of 26.2 kDa that catalyzes the reduction of free flavins using NADPH or NADH as electron donor. The enzyme does not contain any prosthetic group but accommodates both the reduced pyridine nucleotide and the flavin in a ternary complex prior to oxidoreduction.
