Characterization of nitric oxide synthase isoforms expressed in different structures of the guinea pig cochlea

open access: yes, 1997
Nitric oxide synthase (NOS) activity and NADPH diaphorase staining has previously been reported in mammalian cochlea. Here we demonstrate immunoreactivity for neuronal-type NOS I and endothelial-type NOS III in the cochlea of the guinea pig.

Biomaterial design strategies for enhancing mitochondrial transplantation therapy

open access: yesBMEMat, EarlyView.
Biomaterials to facilitate mitochondrial transplantation therapy: biomaterials as barriers to protect mitochondria from pathophysiological microenvironments, like osmotic stress caused by the excessive concentration of calcium ion, reactive oxygen species, and advanced glycation end products; biomaterials integrating with biochemical cues to improve ...

Macrophage‐targeted cerium‐tannic acid metal‐polyphenol framework nanoenzyme promotes in situ heart valves regeneration through adaptive immunomodulation

open access: yesBMEMat, EarlyView.
A novel nanoenzyme based on cerium ions‐tannic acid metal‐polyphenol framework (FCT) has been developed and loaded onto DHVs for targeting M1 macrophages to reduce their ROS level and reprogram macrophage phenotype, thereby eliminating inflammation, promoting endothelialization and adaptive matrix remodeling of scaffolds, offering a promising strategy ...

Regulation of haem oxygenase-1 nitrosative stress in cardiac cells.

open access: yes, 2005
The reactive nitrogen species (RNS) nitric oxide (NO), nitroxyl anion (NO") and nitrosonium cation (NO+), modulate a myriad of biological processes. The microsomal haem oxygenases (HO-1, HO-2 and HO-3) oxidatively catabolise haem to bilirubin, carbon ...

Reprogramming tumor immune microenvironment by ultrasound‐responsive nanoplatforms for enhanced cancer immunotherapy

open access: yesBMEMat, EarlyView.
Ultrasound‐responsive nanoplatforms reprogram the tumor immune microenvironment by targeting tumor cells, immune cells, and non‐immune stromal cells to enhance the efficacy of cancer immunotherapy. Abstract Cancer immunotherapy represents a significant advancement in cancer treatment by enhancing the specific recognition and elimination of cancer cells.

Integrated regulation of the type III secretion system and other virulence determinants in Ralstonia solanacearum

open access: yes, 2006
In many plant and animal bacterial pathogens, the Type III secretion system (TTSS) that directly translocates effector proteins into the eukaryotic host cells is essential for the development of disease.

Atomically precise metal cluster enzymes for pathological tissue regeneration

open access: yesBMEMat, EarlyView.
Schematic illustration of atomically precise metal cluster enzymes (MCEs) for pathological tissue regeneration. Atomically precise MCEs can modulate biological processes, such as attenuation of inflammatory responses, eradication of bacterial pathogens, regulation of angiogenesis, and promotion of cell development.

Unveiling the Microvasculature: The Index of Microcirculatory Resistance and Its Expanding Role in Cardiovascular Care

open access: yesCatheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Index of microcirculatory resistance (IMR) is a cutting‐edge, wire‐based tool that advances the capability assessment of coronary microvascular function. By utilizing distal coronary pressure and mean transit time under maximal hyperemia, IMR delivers consistent, reproducible insights into the microvasculature's dynamic health.

Alterations in mRNA for inducible and endothelial nitric oxide synthase and plasma nitric oxide with rejection and/or infection of allotransplanted lungs

open access: yes, 2018
Background. Experiments were designed to determine expression of type II (iNOS) and type III (ecNOS) nitric oxide synthase in lung parenchyma and systemic endothelial cells with rejection and/or infection of single lung allografts. Methods.
