Urease and nitrification inhibitors with drip fertigation strategies to mitigate global warming potential and improve water-nitrogen efficiency of maize under semi-arid regions

open access: yesAgricultural Water Management
The limited availability of water resources and the significant loss of nitrogen oxides are severe constraints on agricultural development in dry-land agricultural systems of China.

Fiber‐Based Wearable Electronics as Adaptive Biointerfaces for Healthcare Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Fiber‐based wearable electronics have been extensively studied as adaptive healthcare biointerfaces. In this review, we classify and introduce fiber‐based systems according to biointerface design, conductive materials, transduction mechanisms, and healthcare applications, and provide a perspective on their translation toward reliable, continuous ...

Structure‐Property Relationships in Catecholamine Coatings for Broad Surface Functionalization

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Inspired by mussel adhesive proteins (MAPs), six catecholamine molecules with different molecular structure were systematically characterized and compared based on their ability to form homogeneous, reactive coatings. Highlighting candidates capable of balancing coating properties of interest, their successful use as primer layers for organic and ...

Biodegradable 3D‐Printable and Coatable Antifouling Composites for Marine Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Marine biofouling damages submerged surfaces and raises greenhouse gas emissions. Biodegradable antifouling biocomposites were developed by hot‐mixing beeswax, Tween 80, and calcium stearate or stearic acid. Adjusting the component ratio enables processing via hot‐pressing, 3D‐printing, or dip‐coating.

Nitrification inhibitors from plant resources: a strategy for research [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Nitrification inhibitors are chemical ents that inhibit or rather retard nitrification in soil or microbial culture by a sort of family planning among the nitrifying bacteria.

High‐Efficiency Quantum Defect Generation in Carbon Nanotubes via Oxygen‐Free Photochemistry

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We show that oxygen plays an important role in quantum defect formation in carbon nanotubes and identify reaction conditions to create a range of different quantum defects for photonics and biosensing. ABSTRACT Single‐walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) offer potential for a wide range of applications from optoelectronic devices to biomedical diagnostics.

Decoupling Li+ Transport in Self‐Healing Polymer Dual‐Salt Electrolytes for Room Temperature Lithium Metal Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A self‐healable polymer matrix, crosslinked via dynamic imine bonds, is synergistically coupled with a LiPF6–LiDFOB dual‐salt system to decouple Li+ from the polymer matrix, enabling fast Li+ transport. This strategy offers an effective pathway toward high‐performance, next‐generation gel‐polymer‐based Li‐metal batteries.

Effect of Urease and Nitrification Inhibitors on Heavy Metal Mobility in an Intensively Cultivated Soil

open access: yesAgronomy
Urease and nitrification inhibitors represent ways to reduce nitrogen losses; their presence modifies microbial and enzymatic activity in the soil, affecting pH and organic matter (OM), which in turn affects the mobility of heavy metals.

The Effect of Hydrophilic Headgroup Chemistry on Peptoid‐Directed Mineralization of CaCO3

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Amphiphilic peptoids alter the pathway and outcome of calcium carbonate crystallization, which progresses through amorphous calcium carbonate (ACC) to vaterite to calcite rhombs in the absence of peptoids. In contrast, amine‐terminated peptoids produce vaterite disks and carboxyl‐terminated peptoids produce calcite mesocrystals.
