Global patterns and controlling factors of soil nitrification rate
Global Change Biology, 2020AbstractSoil nitrification, an important pathway of nitrogen transformation in ecosystems, produces soil nitrate that influences net primary productivity, while the by‐product of nitrification, nitrous oxide, is a significant greenhouse gas. Although there have been many studies addressing the microbiology, physiology, and impacting environment factors

Effect of carbon dioxide on nitrification rates
Bioprocess and Biosystems Engineering, 2003Lab-scale ideal mixed, aerated reactors were employed to test the influence of carbon dioxide (CO(2)) on the growth rate of a nitrifier community. The buffer medium used did not contain any carbon sources. Reactors were inoculated alternatively with sludge from a nitrifying membrane assisted bioreactor, reflecting autotrophic material, or with sludge ...

Estimation of nitrification rates in flooded soils
Microbial Ecology, 1995Three techniques for estimating nitrification rates in flooded soils were evaluated in short-term incubation experiments using three soils. The techniques were based on inhibition of either ammonium or nitrite oxidation and (13)N isotope dilution.

Nitrification Rates in Activated Sludge
Journal of the Environmental Engineering Division, 1982By using biokinetic and stoichiometric equations it was possible to theoretically develop insight into factors that affect nitrification rate in activated sludge systems. From this study it was shown that nitrifier fraction is not a constant and is dependent on mean cell residence time and the influent COD:TKN ratio, and the percentage of nitrifiers ...

Rate of nitrification of ammoniated vermiculite
Plant and Soil, 1977Treatment of a commercial sample of vermiculite (1–2 mm grade) in its natural (non-exfoliated) state with ammonia gas gave a product which nitrified more slowly than ammonium sulphate. The product has potential as a slow-acting fertilizer although its maximum nitrogen content is only 5–6 per cent.
