Abstract. The nitrification inhibitor dicyandiamide (DCD) has recently been shown to be effective in reducing nitrate leaching from grazed pasture soils. The objective of this study was to determine the influence of temperature and application rate on the effectiveness of DCD in nitrification inhibition.

NITRIFYING GENERA IN ACTIVATED SLUDGE MAY INFLUENCE NITRIFICATION RATES
Proceedings of the Water Environment Federation, 2007Sequencing batch reactors were acclimated under aerobic and alternating anoxic/aerobic conditions. Greater nitrification rates in the alternating reactor were investigated by comparing environmental conditions. In the alternating reactor, pH, alkalinity, oxygen, and nitrite were higher at the onset of aerobic nitrification.

The rates of nitrification of peat soils in British Guiana
The Journal of Agricultural Science, 1954A study has been made of some of the nitrogen fractions of the pegasse soils of British Guiana in virgin and exhausted conditions, that is, before and after cropping.1. Preliminary field experiments on the virgin and exhausted soils adduced strong evidence in support of the complaints made by farmers that the productivity in yields of the pegasse soils

The effect of storms on nitrification rates in a small stream
Water Research, 1985Abstract The impact of storms on nitrification rates was examined over a 2-month period in the Waiohewa Stream, Rotorua, New Zealand. This stream receives high concentrations of geothermally derived ammonia. Changes in mass flows of ammonium and (nitrate + nitrite)-N were used to calculate apparent nitrification rates.

Control of nitrification rate by increasing ammonium concentration
Fertilizer Research, 1988Lysimeter experiments with maize and incubation experiments showed that increased ammonium concentrations in soil reduced nitrification rates. A modified Lees and Quastel kinetic model was proposed for predicting the relation between initial ammonium concentration in soil and nitrification rate.

Laboratory and Instream Nitrification Rates for Selected Streams
Journal of Environmental Engineering, 1987Nitrification rate coefficients are predicted from biochemical oxygen demand tests for two rivers that are moderately deep but have some shoals and riffles. The two streams studied are notable for the lack of a thick benthic community and for the low flow velocities. Measured nitrification coefficients are compared to independently derived coefficients
