A summary of laboratory testing performed to characterize and select an elastomeric O-ring material to be used in the redesigned solid rocket motors of the space transportation system [PDF]

open access: yes
An elastomeric O-ring material is used in the joints of the redesigned solid motors (RSRM's) of the National Space Transportation System (NSTS). The selection of the O-ring material used in the RSRM's was a very thorough process that included efforts by ...

The Application of Headspace: Solid-Phase Microextraction (HS-SPME) Coupled with Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS) for the Characterization of Polymers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Solid-Phase Microextraction (SPME) is a very simple and efficient, solventless sample preparation method, invented by Pawliszyn and coworkers at the University of Waterloo (Canada) in 1989.

Epidemiological Comparative Study on Contact Sensitisations in Woodworkers With Occupational Dermatitis: Patch Test Data of the Information Network of Departments of Dermatology, 1999 to 2023

open access: yesContact Dermatitis, Volume 94, Issue 2, Page 125-136, February 2026.
The data demonstrates that allergic contact dermatitis is common in WW with OD. The most important allergens include resins (including epoxy resin) and plant‐derived substances (including colophonium). The high share of WW with allergic contact dermatitis and face dermatitis hampers preventive efforts.

Characterization of elastomeric materials with application to design [PDF]

open access: yes
Redesign of the Space Shuttle Solid Booster has necessitated re-evaluation of the material used in the field joint O-ring seals. The viscoelastic characteristics of five candidate materials were determined.

Experimental Analysis and Physics‐Based Analytical Model on Twisted and Coiled Artificial Muscles

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 28, Issue 2, 21 January 2026.
Twisted and coiled artificial muscles made from silver‐coated nylon fibers are investigated through experiments and analytical modeling. The actuators achieve contractions up to 19.3% and specific work of 8 kJ kg−1, though efficiency remains limited (≈0.15%) by thermal losses.

Synthesis of carboxyl-terminated liquid nitrile-butadiene-butylacrylate rubber and mechanical properties of toughening epoxy resin

open access: yesHecheng xiangjiao gongye
"Carboxyl-terminated liquid nitrile rubber (CTBN) has been extensively studied for toughening modification of epoxy resin due to its good compatibility and telechelic polymer nature, allowing the carboxyl groups to react with the epoxy groups[1-2 ...
