Nitrite and nitrate chemical biology and signalling
Inorganic nitrate (NO3−), nitrite (NO2−) and NO are nitrogenous species with a diverse and interconnected chemical biology. The formation of NO from nitrate and nitrite via a reductive ‘nitrate–nitrite–NO’ pathway and resulting in vasodilation is now an ...

A unique 2D bionanozyme, engineered from a single amino acid and copper ions, demonstrates peroxidase‐mimicking catalytic activity. This efficient and simple bionanozyme allows for ultrasensitive, equipment‐free visual detection of key biomarkers in both test and real samples, meeting the WHO‐REASSURE standards for practical diagnostic applications ...

Rapid tests and urine sampling techniques for the diagnosis of urinary tract infection (UTI) in children under five years: a systematic review [PDF]
Background: Urinary tract infection (UTI) is one of the most common sources of infection in children under five. Prompt diagnosis and treatment is important to reduce the risk of renal scarring.

Ternary Synergy in Layered Double Hydroxides for Efficient and Stable Nitrate Reduction
Ternary CuZnFe LDH enables efficient electrocatalytic nitrate‐to‐ammonia conversion via controlled in situ reconstruction: zinc leaching creates porous active sites, copper reduced to metallic copper, while iron oxide keeps stable. Synergistic Cu‐Fe redox coupling drives tandem catalysis (nitrate→nitrite→NH3), achieving 95% Faraday efficiency and ...

Influence of nitrite on the removal of Mn(II) using pilot-scale biofilters
Two pilot-scale biofilters were used to systematically investigate the influence of nitrite on biological Mn(II) removal. Gibbs free energy change (ΔG) of the redox reaction between MnO2 and NO2– was 122.28 kJ mol–1 in 298 K, suggesting that MnO2 could ...

Application of Graphene-Based Materials for Detection of Nitrate and Nitrite in Water—A Review
Nitrite and nitrate are widely found in various water environments but the potential toxicity of nitrite and nitrate poses a great threat to human health. Recently, many methods have been developed to detect nitrate and nitrite in water.

This paper synthesizes CuO@CuCo2O4 catalysts via an emulsion hydrothermal method. Among them, CuCuCo2O4 perfectly inherits the advantages of CuO and Co3O4 and successfully connects the reactions in series. During the electrolysis process, CuO is reduced to Cu.

Dissimilatory nitrogen reduction in intertidal sediments of a temperate estuary: small scale heterogeneity and novel nitrate-to-ammonium reducers [PDF]
The estuarine nitrogen cycle can be substantially altered due to anthropogenic activities resulting in increased amounts of inorganic nitrogen (mainly nitrate).

This work proposes a dual‐surface reaction strategy to optimize the interfacial contacts in organic–inorganic photodetectors. 1,4,5,8,9,11‐hexaazatriphenylene hexacarbonitrile (HAT‐CN) and ytterbium layers are designed to react with the Si surface, thus minimizing noise.
