Nitrone Formation by Reaction of an Enolate with a Nitro Group

Organic Letters, 2021
Ketones with a 2-nitrophenyl group at the α-position were treated with sodium hydroxide in methanol at 60 °C. Under these conditions, enolates derived from the ketones intramolecularly reacted with the nitro group to form a variety of nitrones. Additional experimental results, including the unexpected isolation of N-hydroxyindolinone as a byproduct ...

Torsion of the nitro group in nitroethylene

Journal of Molecular Spectroscopy, 1973
Abstract Eight NO 2 -torsional transition frequencies obtained from interferometric far infrared measurements are reported. These data provide accurate information on the potential function for torsional angles up to 50°. The potential parameters are V 2 = 1642.7 ± 3.9 cm −1 and V 4 = −88.0 ± 1.7 cm −1 for a rigid frame/rigid top model and V

Origin of the nitro group of azomycin

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - General Subjects, 1966
Abstract The origin of the nitro group of the antibiotic azomycin (2-nitroimidazole) has been investigated. Addition of 2-aminoimidazole to cultures of an azomycin-producing Streptomyces strain resulted in increased azomycin yields. When [2-14C]2-aminoimidazole was added to the cultures of the Streptomyces more than 50% of the radioactivity was ...

The nitro group as an intramolecular nucleophile

Journal of the Chemical Society, Chemical Communications, 1980
The highly stereoselective, regiospecific bromination of two norbornenyl systems containing an endo-nitro group proceeds with nitro group participation; an X-ray crystal structure determination of product (3a) is reported.

Replacement of the nitro group by hydrogen

Journal of the American Chemical Society, 1978
Die Titelreaktion gelingt mit dem Na-Salz von Methylmercaptan (II); aus der Nitroverbindung (I) werden so die Produkte (III) erhalten.

Protonated nitro group: structure, energy and conjugation

Organic & Biomolecular Chemistry, 2005
Structure of protonated nitro compounds was investigated by calculations at the levels MP2(FC)/6-311++G(2d,2p)//MP2(FC)/6-311++G(2d,2p)(nitromethane and reference compounds) or B3LYP/6-311+G(d,p)//B3LYP/6-311+G(d,p)(nitrobenzene and its 18 meta- and para-substituted derivatives).

Facile conversion of a coordinated nitro group into an aqua group: acid-induced nitro-to-nitrito rearrangement

Inorganic Chemistry, 1987
The nitro complex (NH/sub 3/)/sub 5/CoNO/sub 2//sup 2 +/ reacts rapidly and completely with neat anhydrous trifluoromethanesulfonic acid to generate the aqua species (NH/sub 3/)/sub 5/CoOH/sub 2//sup 3 +/. Oxygen-17 NMR results show that the oxygen in the bound water is derived from the original nitro group.
