Coat-nitrocarburizing using triazine polymer reagent

Journal of Materials Engineering and Performance, 1993
A chemico-thermal treatment process, coat-nitrocarburizing, has been developed for use on iron and steel. The process consists of treating the workpiece with a coat that forms on the surface from the gaseous products of sublimation and decomposition of a triazine polymer reagent in a closed volume.

Gaseous Ferritic Nitrocarburizing

2003
Abstract Gaseous ferritic nitrocarburizing, like salt bath nitrocarburizing, involves the introduction of carbon and nitrogen into steel in order to produce a thin layer of iron carbonitride and nitrides, the "white layer" or compound layer, with an underlying diffusion zone containing dissolved nitrogen and iron (or alloy) nitrides ...

Fundamentals of Nitriding and Nitrocarburizing

2013
AbstractThe nitriding process typically involves the introduction of nitrogen into the surface-adjacent zone of a component, usually at a temperature between 500 and 580 deg C. This article provides an overview of the essential aspects of the thermodynamics and kinetics of nitriding and nitrocarburizing of iron-base materials with gaseous processes. It

Low Temperature Ferritic Nitrocarburizing

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1999
<div class="htmlview paragraph">Salt bath nitrocarburizing (SBN™) is typically done at 1075°F, thereby limiting near-surface hardening, and consequently fatigue strengthening, according to the temper resistance of the base material. The first phase of this investigation is a study of the response of low alloy steels to SBN at lower temperatures ...

Preparation for Ferritic Nitrocarburizing

2003
Abstract Surface cleanliness requirements depend on which nitrocarburizing process is selected for component treatment. This chapter discusses the processes involved in some of the more commonly used precleaning methods for gas ferritic nitrocarburizing and provides information on the methods used to accomplish enhanced plasma cleaning.

Ferritic Nitrocarburizing Processes and Applications

Heat Treating Conference, 2013
Abstract Ferritic Nitrocarburizing and nitriding processes are available in various atmosphere blends and a myriad of equipment designs. Atmosphere choices can dictate process capabilities. Equipment design should be reviewed to select the proper choice for the part application.
