There is genetic variation in ryegrass for the ability to respond to nitrogen fertilizer, Breeding nitrogen use efficient cultivars can increase farm profitability and sustainability. Abstract Background Improving the nitrogen use efficiency (NUE) of pastures has the benefit of reducing costs of production and reducing nitrogen loss to the environment.

Breeding switchgrass for reduced nitrogen demand
Breeding has improved switchgrass biomass yield, but productivity is still heavily dependent on nitrogen fertilizer application. The genetic diversity needed to improve nitrogen use efficiency of switchgrass remains underused, mainly because of the slow and laborious breeding process, thus leaving the crop's high nitrogen demand as a major barrier to ...

ABSTRACT Pediatric cancer is a significant cause of morbidity and mortality in children. The etiologies of pediatric cancer are largely unknown, but environmental pesticide exposures are likely to contribute. Chronic low‐dose exposure to pesticide mixtures through drinking water is a growing concern in agricultural communities.

Host‐specific and deterministic microbiome assembly in major coleopteran stored‐grain pests
Dual DNA‐ and RNA‐based sequencing profiled the microbiomes of five major coleopteran stored‐grain pests and their wheat flour substrate. The microbiomes differed significantly among hosts and from flour, yet 11 core bacterial and 9 core fungal taxa were shared across hosts. RNA data revealed host‐specific active microbiota.
