A TALE OF TWO CITIES: DIET, HEALTH AND MIGRATION IN POST-MEDIEVAL COVENTRY AND CHELSEA THROUGH BIOGRAPHICAL RECONSTRUCTION, OSTEOARCHAEOLOGY AND ISOTOPE BIOGEOCHEMISTRY [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Biogeochemical research has over the past four-and-a-half decades improved our understanding of human interaction with past environments. The application of different isotope systems has allowed archaeologists to interpret ancient diet, migration and ...

A Bifunctional T3SS‐Effector Simultaneously Cleaves Host MAP Kinase and Inhibits PPM1A Phosphatase

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Pathogenic bacteria exploit the metalloprotease effector NleD to subvert host defenses. Structural, biochemical, and infection analyses reveal a bifunctional mechanism by which NleD binds and inhibits the host phosphatase PPM1A while preserving its proteolytic activity against MAPKs.

A basin‐wide carbon‐related proxy dataset in arid China

open access: yesGeoscience Data Journal
Closed basin accounts for about one‐fifth of the global land area and is an important part of the global terrestrial carbon cycle. Due to its relatively close geographical environment and independent carbon cycling system, it is an ideal place to study ...

Climate Change Threatens Micronutrient Density of European Winter Wheat

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Micronutrients are vital for human health. Wheat is a major staple crop and a significant source of minerals and B‐vitamins. The impact of climate change on their content remains largely unknown. We evaluated micronutrient levels in European winter wheat grown under historical and projected climate conditions. Our findings indicate that future climates

Stable isotope records of sei whale baleens from Chilean Patagonia as archives for feeding and migration behavior

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, 2020
Carbon (δ13C) and nitrogen (δ15N) stable isotope variations in baleen plates of sei whales (Balaenoptera borealis) stranded after a mass mortality event in Chilean Patagonia were investigated to assess potential dietary and migratory patterns. Carbon and

Stable isotopes in diatom silica [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Diatom silica is a form of biogenic opal (SiO2.nH2O, Figure 1) containing oxygen, silicon, carbon and nitrogen isotopes that can be used in lacustrine and marine paleoenvironmental studies.
