Intercropping of oat or mustard with legumes under organic management in the semiarid Canadian Prairie

open access: yesAgronomy Journal, Volume 117, Issue 3, May/June 2025.
Abstract Intercropping, the growing of more than one crop at the same time within the same land area, could be a sustainable method of crop production in semiarid regions, which could increase biodiversity, and productivity and quality of crops compared to monocultures.

Comprehensive Genome‐Wide Analysis and Expression Profiling of Pathogenesis‐Related Protein 1 (PR‐1) Genes in Salvia miltiorrhiza

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 13, Issue 5, May 2025.
This study identified 11 SmPR‐1 genes in Salvia miltiorrhiza, which play crucial roles in plant defense and stress response. Expression profiling and subcellular localization of SmPR‐1‐5 suggest its involvement in intracellular signaling, and CMV infection triggers specific gene activation patterns.

Influence of Nitrogen Mustards on the Antibody Response.

open access: yesExperimental Biology and Medicine, 1947
Summary1. The lymphocytoxic effect of the nitrogen mustards will not produce an anamnestic reaction or summation of the antibody titre in the rabbit.2. Pretreatment and concurrent administration of nitrogen mustard suppress the antibody response to typhoid antigen.

Roots of resilience: Optimizing microbe‐rootstock interactions to enhance vineyard productivity

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, Volume 7, Issue 3, Page 524-535, May 2025.
Grape production relies significantly on agrochemicals, such as fertilizers and pesticides, to sustain vine health and yield. However, excessive or improper use of these inputs leads to detrimental environmental effects, including soil degradation, water contamination, and biodiversity decline.

Megatrends and emerging issues: Impacts on food safety

open access: yesComprehensive Reviews in Food Science and Food Safety, Volume 24, Issue 3, May 2025.
Abstract The world is changing at a pace, driven by global megatrends and their interactions. Megatrends, including climate change, the drive for sustainability, an aging population, urbanization, and geopolitical tensions, are producing an increasingly challenging environment for the provision of a safe and secure food supply. To ensure a robust, safe,
