Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Assessing membrane aerated biofilm reactor configurations in mainstream anammox applications

open access: yesWater Science and Technology, 2022
Partial nitritation anammox (PNA) membrane aerated biofilm reactors (MABRs) have the potential to be employed in mainstream wastewater treatment and can drastically decrease the energy and carbon requirements for nitrogen removal.

Three phosphatase families form a community: The phosphohydrolases that act upon inositol pyrophosphates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.

Golgi enzymes are retrieved from the plasma membrane to the trans‐Golgi network

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Golgi enzymes are traditionally considered resident proteins retained within the Golgi apparatus. Here, we demonstrate that a subset transiently reaches the cell surface and is subsequently retrieved to the trans‐Golgi network via retrograde transport. Using a nanobody‐based toolkit, we uncover a dynamic trafficking cycle of several Golgi enzymes.

Effects of Chemical Modification on Removal of Pollutants with Carbon and Nitrogen from Aqueous Solution by Zeolite

open access: yes工程科学与技术, 2015
:The effects of six chemical modification agents of acetic acid, citric acid, sodium citrate, SDS, sodium chlorite, and HDTMA on the removal rates of low concentration of ammonia nitrogen, nitrate nitrogen and COD by zeolite were studied.

Daytime and nighttime removal processes of atmospheric NO2 and NH3 in Araraquara's region – SP

open access: yesEclética Química, 2018
Nitrogen oxides and ammonia are important nitrogen compounds which are emitted to the atmosphere. They are very important substances in the environment. In the atmosphere, these substances may undergo diverse reactions that result in changes of chemical ...

Partial depletion of plasminogen activator inhibitor‐1 decreases subcutaneous fat cell hypertrophy and liver cholesterol in high‐fat‐fed female mice

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Obesity raises blood levels of PAI‐1, a protein linked to metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease in people with obesity. In female mice fed a high‐fat diet, partially lowering PAI‐1 led to smaller subcutaneous fat cells and lower liver cholesterol, without changing body weight or insulin sensitivity.

Long-Term Performance of Nitrogen Removal and Microbial Analysis in an Anammox MBBR Reactor with Internal Circulation to Provide Low Concentration DO

open access: yesToxics, 2022
The anammox process is considered as a revolutionary new denitrification technology. In this study, the anammox process was started in a single-stage moving bed biofilm reactor (MBBR) and the mechanism of excess removal of ammonia nitrogen was studied ...

Hijacking emergency granulopoiesis: Neutrophil ontogeny and reprogramming in cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Neutrophils are highly plastic innate immune cells; their functions in cancer extend beyond the tumour microenvironment. This Review summarises current understanding of neutrophil maturation and heterogeneity and highlights tumour‐induced granulopoiesis as a systemic programme that expands immature, immunosuppressive neutrophils via tumour‐derived ...

Nitrogen Removal Performance of an IFAS System under Low C/N Municipal Wastewater Conditions [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences
To overcome the limited total nitrogen removal and dependence on external carbon sources in conventional treatment of low C/N municipal wastewater, a continuous-flow integrated fixed-film activated sludge (IFAS) reactor was established to investigate its
