Characterization of an M-Cluster-Substituted Nitrogenase VFe Protein
The Mo- and V-nitrogenases are two homologous members of the nitrogenase family that are distinguished mainly by the presence of different heterometals (Mo or V) at their respective cofactor sites (M- or V-cluster).

Activation of CO2 by Vanadium Nitrogenase
AbstractThe reduction of CO2 into useful products, including hydrocarbon fuels, is an ongoing area of particular interest due to efforts to mitigate buildup of this greenhouse gas. While the industrial Fischer–Tropsch process can facilitate the hydrogenation of CO2 with H2 to form short‐chain hydrocarbon products under high temperatures and pressures ...

Carbon monoxide production is not enhanced by nitrogenase activity [PDF]
A diverse group of nitrogen-fixing bacteria and two heme degraders were grown with and without fixed nitrogen sources under oxic and suboxic conditions, with and without addition of heme-containing compounds. Several of the strains produced carbon monoxide (CO) under one or more of these conditions, but nitrogenase activity did not stimulate rates of ...

Directional control within the secondary coordination sphere redefines CO2 reduction by iron porphyrins. Simply rearranging identical urea hydrogen‐bond donors modulates reactivity, revealing that optimal catalysis does not only arise from maximal intermediate stabilization, but also from directional, adaptive non‐covalent interactions that balance ...

NifA is the master regulator of both nitrogenase systems in Rhodobacter capsulatus
Rhodobacter capsulatus fixes atmospheric nitrogen (N2) by a molybdenum (Mo)‐nitrogenase and a Mo‐free iron (Fe)‐nitrogenase, whose production is induced or repressed by Mo, respectively. At low nanomolar Mo concentrations, both isoenzymes are synthesized

Oxygen inactivation and recovery of nitrogenase activity in cyanobacteria [PDF]
Exposure of nitrogen-fixing cultures of Anabaena spp. to 100% oxygen resulted in the rapid decline of nitrogenase activity. When oxygen-treated cells were transferred to 100% argon, nitrogenase activity was quickly restored in a process that required protein synthesis.

Repression, Derepression and Activation of Nitrogenase in Azotobacter Vinelandii [PDF]
Ammonium ions repressed nitrogenase in cells fixing N2 gas. Immunological tests and electrophoresIs in various gels show that component I (Fe-Mo-S protein) was completely repressed by ammonium, whereas component II (Fe-S protein) apoprotein was not markedly affected.

Engineering Nitrogen Fixation Activity in an Oxygenic Phototroph
Biological nitrogen fixation is catalyzed by nitrogenase, a complex metalloenzyme found only in prokaryotes. N2 fixation is energetically highly expensive, and an energy-generating process such as photosynthesis can meet the energy demand of N2 fixation.

Oxygen inhibition of nitrogenase activity in Klebsiella pneumoniae [PDF]
A purpose-built oxystat has been used to study reversible inhibition of nitrogenase by O2 in the facultative anaerobe Klebsiella pneumoniae. C2H2-reducing activity in samples from either an anaerobic glucose-limited or an O2-limited diazotrophic chemostat culture was completely inhibited by exposure to a dissolved O2 concentration (DOC) of 1.5 microM ...
