Pulmonary arterial mechanoreceptors mediate sustained sympathoexcitation during high altitude hypoxia in humans

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Sympathetic nervous system activation is a hallmark of high‐altitude hypoxia, yet the afferent mechanisms remain incompletely defined. We examined the relative contributions of pulmonary arterial mechanoreceptors and carotid chemoreceptors – two excitatory pathways co‐activated by hypoxia – to sustained sympathoexcitation at altitude.

Calcium‐activated chloride channels in pericytes and their role in regulating organ blood flow

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Pericytes are microvascular mural cells with diverse roles. Contractile pericytes directly regulate local perfusion, while non‐contractile pericytes coordinate upstream vascular contractility via propagating electrical signals.

Inflammation contributes to axon reflex vasodilatation evoked by iontophoresis of an alpha-1 adrenoceptor agonist [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Iontophoresis of aradrenoceptor agonists in the human forearm evoke axon reflex vasodilatation, possibly due to an accumulation of inflammatory agents at the site of iontophoresis.

Multi‐Targeting Carnosic Acid Kills Drug‐Resistant Helicobacter pylori With Narrow‐Spectrum Activity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 50, 7 September 2026.
Carnosic acid selectively eradicates drug‐resistant Helicobacter pylori through a multi‐targeted mechanism involving urease inhibition, membrane disruption, and biofilm eradication. It exhibits no detectable resistance, potent in vivo efficacy, and minimal impact on gut microbiota, positioning it as a promising narrow‐spectrum lead compound against ...

Intravenous clonidine administration and its ability to reduce pulmonary arterial pressure in patients undergoing heart surgery

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Anesthesiology, 2014
Objective: Evaluate the ability of clonidine to reduce pulmonary arterial pressure in patients with pulmonary hypertension undergoing heart surgery, either by reducing the pressure values from the direct measurement of pulmonary arterial pressure or by ...

The Effect of Intensive Blood Pressure Reduction on Perihematomal Edema After Intracerebral Hemorrhage: A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesBrain and Behavior, Volume 16, Issue 9, September 2026.
This systematic review and meta‐analysis suggests that intensive blood pressure reduction is associated with modestly smaller approximately 24‐h perihematomal edema expansion after spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage, supporting further standardized trials to clarify whether early edema attenuation contributes to clinical benefit.

Alternatives to nitroprusside as hypotensive agents [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
The drug sodium pentacyanonitrosylferrate(2-)dihydrate, more commonly known as nitroprusside or nipride (Fig. 1), is a common vasodilating agent given clinically to patients with hypertension.12.22 Nitroprusside is effective in emergency rooms as it ...
