Nitroreductase-Activated Probes for Monitoring Hypoxia
ACS SensorsHypoxia, a hallmark of solid tumors, complicates cancer treatment by reducing the efficacy of radiotherapy and chemotherapy. To optimize strategies for hypoxia detection and targeted cancer therapy, this work explores the development of hypoxia-responsive fluorescent probes.

Reduction of 4-nitrophenol catalyzed by nitroreductase
Chinese Chemical Letters, 2007Abstract The reduction of 4-nitrophenol catalyzed by nitroreductase in the presence of NADH was investigated in this paper. 4-Amino-phenol and 4-hydroxylamino-phenol were found in the reductive products. The relationship between reaction time and the reductive ratio were studied.

Type I nitroreductases of Escherichia coli
Canadian Journal of Microbiology, 1981Analysis of partially purified crude extract of Escherichia coli K12 by chromatography and gel electrophoresis has resulted in the separation of three distinct activities which catalyse the reduction of nitrofurazone (semicarbazone of 5-nitro-2-furaldehyde) in the presence of oxygen (type I nitroreductases).

Aromatic Nitroreductase from the Basidiomycete Phanerochaete chrysosporium
Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1994A membrane-associated aromatic nitroreductase activity was identified in cell-free extracts of the lignin-degrading fungus Phanerochaete chrysosporium. The enzyme catalyzed the nitro group reduction of 1,3-dinitrobenzene, 2,4-dinitrotoluene, 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene, 1-chloro-2,4-dinitrobenzene, and 2,4-dichloro-1-nitrobenzene.

The competitive inhibition of nitroreductase by some analogues of nitrofurantoin
Biochemical Pharmacology, 1968Abstract The ability of guinea pig liver microsomal and soluble preparations to reduce f-nitrobenzoic acid has been investigated. Furadantin and some related nitrofuran analogues have been showna to inhibit competitively the nitroreductase reduction of P-nitrobenzoic acid and the enzyme inhibitor characteristics are reported.

Studies on the induction of nitroreductase activity by DDT and phenobarbital
Toxicology and Applied Pharmacology, 1970Abstract A study was conducted on the effects of variations in amounts of tissue and NADP concentrations on the nitroreductase activity of whole homogenates, 9000 g supernatant, soluble, and microsomal fractions of rat livers. The contribution of various liver fractions to the total nitroreductase activity was investigated especially in relation to ...

Role of Clostridial Nitroreductases in Bioremediation
2017The use of clostridial enzymes in industry, environment, medical and economical aspects has been of immense significance and is well documented. Over decades the research has been focused on developing efficient strains and modified enzymes to be used in the bio-butanol production.

A kinetic analysis of three modified novel nitroreductases
Biodegradation, 2010A kinetic comparison between three nitroreductase enzymes isolated from the genome of Bacillus licheniformis ATCC 14580 for prospective use as immobilised enzymes for explosives detection has been conducted. The genes encoding the three enzymes (yfkO [BLNfnB] encoding an NfsB-like enzyme; nfrA [BLNfrA1] and ycnD [BLNfrA2] encoding PnrA-like enzymes ...

Nitroreductases in the Madagascar cockroach, Gromphadorhina portentosa
Pesticide Biochemistry and Physiology, 1973Abstract Nitrobenzene reduction by tissue preparations of the Madagascar cockroach, Grompphadorhina portentosa, was studied in vitro. Active enzyme preparations were obtained from midgut, hindgut, fat body, and Malpighian tubules. Anaerobic conditions were essential for activity which was found in all subcellular fractions tested.
