Enzyme Immunoassay Detection of Nitrosomonas europaea [PDF]

open access: yesApplied and Environmental Microbiology, 1994
An exploratory effort to selectively detect the presence of a nitrifying bacterium, Nitrosomonas europaea , successfully demonstrated the fundamental utility of an enzyme-based immunoassay protocol. The applied polyclonal antibody test seemingly offered a marked improvement over the available analytical options ...

Methane oxidation by Nitrosomonas europaea [PDF]

open access: yesBiochemical Journal, 1983
Methane inhibited NH4+ utilization by Nitrosomonas europaea with a Ki of 2mM. O2 consumption was not inhibited. In the absence of NH4+, or with hydrazine as reductant, methane caused nearly a doubling in the rate of O2 uptake. The stimulation was abolished by allylthiourea, a sensitive inhibitor of the oxidation of NH4+. Analysis revealed that methanol

The effectiveness of the use of filter on the tilapia growth performance, number of Nitrosomonas sp., and water quality in aquaponics systems

open access: yesJurnal Akuakultur Indonesia, 2018
This study aims to determine the most effective type of living filter media for the bacteria Nitrosomonas sp. in order to improve water quality in aquaponics systems.

Reactivation of Microbial Strains and Synthetic Communities After a Spaceflight to the International Space Station: Corroborating the Feasibility of Essential Conversions in the MELiSSA Loop [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
To sustain human deep space exploration or extra-terrestrial settlements where no resupply from the Earth or other planets is possible, technologies for in situ food production, water, air, and waste recovery need to be developed.

Nitrogen removal in a two-chambered microbial fuel cell: Establishment of a nitrifying-denitrifying microbial community on an intermittent aerated cathode [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
A microbial fuel cell (MFC) was used to study nitrogen dynamics and its feasibility for high strength wastewater treatment. Intermittent aeration was applied on the cathode chamber accomplishing the establishment of a simultaneous nitrifying-denitrifying

Estuarine Nitrifiers: New Players, Patterns and Processes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Ever since the first descriptions of ammonia-oxidizing Bacteria by Winogradsky in the late 1800s, the metabolic capability of aerobic ammonia oxidation has been restricted to a phylogenetically narrow group of bacteria.

Population Dynamics and Community Composition of Ammonia Oxidizers in Salt Marshes after the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The recent oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico had significant effects on microbial communities in the Gulf, but impacts on nitrifying communities in adjacent salt marshes have not been investigated.

Application of COMPOCHIP Microarray to Investigate the Bacterial Communities of Different Composts [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
A microarray spotted with 369 different 16S rRNA gene probes specific to microorganisms involved in the degradation process of organic waste during composting was developed. The microarray was tested with pure cultures, and of the 30,258 individual probe-
