Sketch map showing the relationship among in situ stresses, shear waves, and natural fractures. (A) When natural fractures of the NE‒SW strike are weakly developed, the FSWs propagate along the direction parallel to SHmax, and the SSWs propagate along the direction perpendicular to SHmax.

The record of sea water chemistry evolution during the Ediacaran–Cambrian from early marine cements
We document changing carbonate mineralogy, Mg/Ca and rare earth element concentrations including the relative abundance of cerium (Ce anomaly: Ceanom) to track sea water oxygen levels, in well‐preserved early marine cements from shallow marine reefs from Cambrian Stages 2–4 (ca 525–512 Million years ago [Ma]).

The content and spatial distribution of brittle minerals, such as quartz, are important factors in determining the fracture initiation mechanism induced by hydraulic fracturing in shale reservoirs. To further research the impact of quartz content in shales of the Lower Cambrian Niutitang Formation in northern Guizhou on the fracture expansion of its ...

To investigate the damage pattern and acoustic emission pattern of temperature on laminated shales, numerical experiments were carried out using the RFPA2D‐Thermal numerical software under the effect of thermosolid coupling. During the tests, temperatures of 30°C, 60°C, and 90°C were controlled, and five sets of shales containing different laminar dips
