Marine Shale Gas Occurrence and Its Influencing Factors: A Case Study from the Wufeng‐Longmaxi Formation, Northwestern Guizhou, China

open access: yesGeofluids, Volume 2022, Issue 1, 2022., 2022
Organic‐rich shales were found in the Ordovician to Silurian Wufeng‐Longmaxi Formation in northwestern Guizhou province, China, which has high shale gas content revealed by field measurement. Shale gas occurrence, free gas/sorbed gas ratio, and their influencing factors are crucial for shale gas exploitation strategy.

The Effect of Tectonic Stress and Thermal Evolution on Shale Pores of Devonian and Carboniferous Shales in Southern China

open access: yesGeofluids, Volume 2022, Issue 1, 2022., 2022
Many sets of Paleozoic marine organic‐rich shale strata are developed in southern China. However, the exploration and development degree of these strata are different. Cambrian shale and Ordovician‐Silurian shale are two horizons with high degree of exploration, while Devonian shale and Carboniferous shale exploration is deficient. Based on XRD, FE‐SEM,

The influence factors of gas-bearing and geological characteristics of Niutitang Formation shale in the southern margin of Xuefeng Mountain ancient uplift: A case of Well Huangdi 1

open access: yesChina Geology, 2020
: In order to evaluate the geological characteristics and gas-bearing factors of Niutitang Formation within the Lower Cambrian of northern Guizhou, the Huangping area located at the southern edge of the ancient uplift belt of Xuefeng Mountain was ...

Study on the Microscale Tensile Properties of Lower Cambrian Niutitang Formation Shale Based on Digital Images [PDF]

open access: yesGeofluids, 2020
Tensile strength is an important parameter that affects the initiation and propagation of shale reservoir fractures during hydraulic fracturing. Shale is often filled with minerals such as calcite. To explore the effect of calcite minerals on the tensile strength and failure mode of shale, in this paper, lower Cambrian shale cores were observed by ...

Effects of Regional Differences in Shale Floor Interval on the Petrophysical Properties and Shale Gas Prospects of the Overmature Niutitang Shale, Middle-Upper Yangtz Block

open access: yes, 2022
The lower Cambrian Niutitang/Qiongzhusi shale gas in the Middle-Upper Yangtz Block had been regarded as a very promising unconventional natural gas resource due to its high total organic carbon, great thickness, and large areal distribution.

Study on the Microscopic Fracture Process and Acoustic Emission of Shale Based on Digital Image

open access: yesGeofluids, 2021
The Niutitang Formation shale is often filled with calcite minerals, which significantly affects the physical and mechanical properties of shale reservoirs.

Acoustic emission-based numerical simulation of tectonic stress field for tectoclase prediction in shale reservoirs of the northern Guizhou area, China

open access: yesEnergy Geoscience, 2022
Natural fractures, like tectoclases, are essential in the formation of shale gas reservoirs and have been the focus of study for shale gas development. Tectoclases provide most storage space for gas and are largely controlled by the paleo-tectonic stress

Factors controlling organic matter enrichment in the Lower Cambrian Niutitang Formation Shale on the eastern shelf margin of the Yangtze Block, China

open access: yes, 2017
The degree of organic matter (OM) enrichment in shale determines its oil and gas potential. To understand the factors controlling this OM enrichment, we have used petrological and geochemical analyses to study the Lower Cambrian Niutitang Formation ...
